Job Description Position Title: Project Engineer Company: McGill Brothers, Inc. Location: Omaha, Nebraska Department: Operations / Project Management Reports To: Project Manager / Director of Operations FLSA Status: Exempt Position Summary McGill Brothers, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and team-focused Project Engineer to support the successful planning, coordination, documentation, and execution of commercial construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Estimators, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and in alignment with company quality standards. The Project Engineer plays a key support role in project administration, document control, scheduling coordination, cost tracking, communication, procurement support, and closeout activities. We are committed to delivering high-quality work while operating in alignment with our core values: • Do what you say you’re going to do, • Innovative Solutions, • Dedicated to the cause and the team Key Responsibilities Project Coordination and Support • Support Project Managers with planning, coordination, and administration of multiple construction projects., • Assist in setting up new projects, including document organization, contract tracking, submittal logs, and procurement tracking., • Help monitor project schedules, milestones, and critical deadlines., • Coordinate with field teams to gather and communicate project information, updates, and needs., • Manage submittals, RFIs, drawing updates, product data, permits, and other project documentation., • Distribute updated plans, specifications, and project communications to appropriate internal and external stakeholders., • Track open items and follow up to support timely responses and resolution., • Assist with purchase orders, material tracking, vendor communication, and delivery coordination., • Support budget tracking by helping monitor committed costs, change events, pending changes, and project cost documentation., • Review invoices, delivery tickets, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness., • Coordinate with Superintendents and Foremen to support project startup, manpower planning, material readiness, and production flow., • Help address project issues by facilitating communication between office and field personnel., • Participate in jobsite visits, project meetings, preconstruction meetings, and coordination meetings as needed., • Support compliance with company quality standards, safety expectations, and project requirements., • Assist with punch list tracking, warranty documentation, closeout packages, as-built collection, and final project documentation., • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred., • Equivalent construction experience may be considered in place of formal education., • 1–3 years of construction experience preferred; internships or relevant field experience are valuable., • Understanding of commercial construction processes, drawings, specifications, and project documentation., • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams., • Familiarity with project management software, document management systems, and construction technology is preferred., • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work., • Strong attention to detail and follow-through., • Ability to communicate professionally with field personnel, clients, vendors, and internal teams., • Ability to identify issues early and help drive timely solutions., • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive project information appropriately., • Ability to work in both office and field environments., • Ability to walk jobsites, climb stairs or ladders when necessary, and navigate active construction environments safely., • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and carry typical jobsite or office materials. This position involves a combination of office-based project support and periodic jobsite visits. The Project Engineer must be comfortable operating in an active commercial construction environment and working with both office and field teams.
