Job Description Simulator Technician Location: RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk, United Kingdom Clearance: Secret Travel: <10% Job Description Summary/Objective The Simulator Technicians support the AFSOC ACTS program by ensuring the operation, maintenance, and technical performance of Department of Defense flight simulator systems. Working with engineers, IT and cybersecurity specialists, and instructors, this role provides advanced troubleshooting, system integration, and hardware/software diagnostics while overseeing daily technician activities to maintain mission readiness. The position serves as a key liaison to government customers and stakeholders, ensuring all maintenance, documentation, and system updates meet program and contractual requirements. The essential job functions for this position include: • Troubleshoot and correct discrepancies in electronic, computer, networking, hydraulic, visual, and mechanical systems down to the component level using technical manuals, schematics, engineering documentation, and diagnostic tools., • Install, replace, clean, integrate, upgrade, and service visual generation/display systems, computers, networks, electric motion platforms, circuit cards, software releases, hardware modifications, and other related hardware., • Conduct scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with vendor manuals, program work instructions, and established maintenance schedules to ensure maximum system availability., • Operate and maintain electronic test equipment used to verify system performance and support validation, verification, and acceptance testing activities., • Prepare training assets for daily operation, including performing visual alignments, pre-/post-flight procedures, system configuration, and operational verification before, during, and after training events., • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of aircraft systems and their simulation counterparts to ensure accurate system performance and training realism., • Follow all established safety, security, and technical procedures, promoting a safety-first culture and ensuring proper handling of classified or sensitive information when applicable., • Report and accurately document maintenance actions, discrepancies, parts usage, and system status using approved software tools, forms, and logbooks in accordance with company, government, and program standards to ensure traceability and auditability., • Support logistic operations including part ordering, inventory management, stocking, and tracking of components to maintain operational readiness., • Support training activities for fellow technicians and participate in on-the-job training (OJT) to maintain proficiency in simulator subsystems, emerging technologies, and program-specific processes. Required skills and abilities to effectively perform this position include, but are not limited to: • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, visual, and networked systems to the component level using technical documentation and diagnostic tools., • Skilled in performing preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with OEM manuals, technical orders, and program work instructions to ensure system reliability and availability., • Skilled in installation, integration, and configuration of simulator hardware and software, including visual systems, motion platforms, computers, and network components., • Ability to maintain configuration control and technical documentation in compliance with cybersecurity requirements, program baselines, and government standards., • Ability to adhere to safety and security protocols and provide field support in operational environments, including travel and flexible work schedules., • Skilled in repairing electronics, computers, networks, visual/display systems, I/O systems, electric motion bases, mechanical components, and flight instrumentation., • Proficiency in following maintenance manuals and work instructions for routine checks, pre‑operational, and post‑operational procedures., • Ability to read and interpret electronic/electrical drawings, schematics, and logic diagrams; troubleshoot circuits to component level. Position requires High School diploma, Associate’s degree preferred. Two (2) years of related experience may substitute for absence of Technical College Degree. 3-8 years of experience in simulator maintenance or other related technical field required. Formal technical electronics training (or equivalent military training) and prior simulator‑maintenance experience required. Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Preferred Education and Experience • Knowledge of network administration principles as they apply to simulator systems., • DoD Personal Secret Security Clearance Work Environment, Programs, and Tools This position operates in a shop floor environment. Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock from moving mechanical parts driven by hydraulics under high pressure. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds overhead. Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladders/platforms into a simulator or airplane cockpit. Must be able to work at heights. Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top or under the device. Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and their surrounding environment. Must be able to distinguish colors. Will at times be exposed to the following conditions: extreme heat, airborne particles, loud noises. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This position will be abroad at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk, United Kingdom and will require adherence to the Government site hours of operation. This position is a full-time hourly non-exempt position, expected to work 40 hours a week. May require evening/weekend work and work outside of the Government site hours of operations when needed to support Program needs when approved. Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as required. Travel Must be willing and able to travel. Domestic and International travel may be required. Security Clearance Must be eligible for DoD Personnel Security Clearance. Must be a US Person, as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)/Technical Assistance Agreement (TAA), eligible to receive and handle controlled classified & unclassified information.
