American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Orthopedics Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Orthopedics, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 12/08/2025, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Work in a hospital-based acute Med/Surg Orthopedics unit, • Unit includes 28 beds plus 22 overflow, with a 1:5 RN-to-patient ratio, • Patient population includes orthopedic cases (total knees, hips, shoulder replacements), as well as medical diagnoses such as COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, fractures, sepsis, pneumonia, cholelithiasis, ambulatory dysfunction, appendicitis, acute respiratory distress, CHF, ETOH/drug abuse, • No drip titration required; common drips include heparin, IV antibiotics, antithrombics, and narcotics, • Unit has support from charge nurses and 1:10 nurse aids/patient care techs, • Monitors located at main nurses' station; tele monitor techs are in ICU, • Uses Epic EMR system; prior Epic experience is preferred, • 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling, • Required to work every third weekend (Friday and Saturday for nights), • Travelers may float to PCU and behavioral health units, • Navy blue scrubs required, • Candidates must complete a pass/fail skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%, • First week includes classroom orientation followed by one 12-hour shift on the unit, • Emphasis on hourly rounding and bedside shift reporting, • Travelers must be flexible, self-directed, and open to working with a diverse patient population, including those with mental health and addiction histories, • Only candidates residing more than 50 miles from the facility will be considered, • Holiday coverage may be required according to assignment schedule, • Must provide requested time off (RTO) upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission, • Returning travelers must not have worked at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year\n \n Requirements\n, • Active IA or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted, • Minimum of 1 year recent Med/Surg experience required, • BLS certification required and must be active at time of consideration, • Previous experience with Epic EMR preferred, • Must submit a copy of a valid driver’s license for radius verification, • Candidates may not have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI or Dignity Health facility within the past year, • Adherence to fingernail policy: artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas\n Benefits\n, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
