Position Summary: As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role as an assistant to our physicians. You will be cross trained to perform a range of administrative and clinical duties. These duties include preparing the patient to see the physician, preparing examination rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures. Job Duties & Essential Functions: Patient Interaction & Clinical Intake • Greet and communicate with patients and their families in a manner consistent with caring and respect., • Initiate patient evaluations by accurately documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent information., • Perform pre-exam testing, including visual acuity assessment (with pinhole and glare testing), confrontational visual fields, extraocular muscle testing, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, angle assessment, and dilation., • Conduct advanced diagnostic testing such as OCT, fundus photography, IOL Master, Pentacam, A-scan, B-scan, Wave Scan/Vario, keratometry, lensometry, and visual field testing., • Assist with in-office minor surgical procedures and laser treatments., • Complete prescription refill requests as authorized by the physician, ensuring proper documentation in the patient chart., • Track, document, and communicate laboratory results to physicians and patients promptly, ensuring accuracy and continuity of care., • Educate patients on the use of medications and provide pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by the physician., • Maintain and manage inventory of ophthalmic supplies, pharmaceuticals, and instruments., • Inspect and assist with the maintenance of clinical examination equipment, report damage, coordinate repairs, and request replacements as necessary., • Assist with cleaning surgical instruments in preparation for sterilization., • Properly shut down and clean diagnostic testing equipment as needed., • Open and close exam rooms daily, including cleaning equipment, charging devices, and securing instruments., • Assist with opening and closing the clinic as needed., • Follow all safety protocols and clinic procedures., • Monitor and respond to work emails; utilize shared tools such as Google Drive to stay informed throughout the workday., • Participate in training and educational opportunities, including webinars and in-service sessions, to remain current with best practices., • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor. Required Qualifications: • High School diploma or equivalent, • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician, • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification required or enrolled within one year and completion within two years of hire, • Strong customer service skills with a professional and friendly demeanor., • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities., • Skilled in problem-solving with strong attention to detail., • Comfortable engaging in face-to-face interactions with patients and staff., • Ability to stand for long periods of time Work Schedule: • $24.50 Benefits: We aim to take care of our teammates the same way we take care of our patients.
