Job Description Job Title: Teen Program Coordinator (High School & CIT Programs) Location: Boys & Girls Club of Milford Position Type: Seasonal (Summer) Reports To: Teen Director Position Overview The Teen Program Coordinator is a leadership role responsible for co-developing, implementing, and supervising engaging, safe, and impactful programming for high school-aged members and Counselors-in-Training (CITs) during the summer program. This position supports both traditional teen programming and structured leadership development initiatives, helping teens build confidence, responsibility, life skills, and a strong sense of belonging. This individual will serve as a mentor, facilitator, and role model, working to create a positive Club culture where all teens feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. The Teen Program Coordinator must be comfortable taking initiative, leading independently, and managing both structured programs and day-to-day operations, including stepping into a leadership role when the Teen Director is not present. Core Responsibilities Program Leadership & Implementation • Co-lead the daily operations of the High School Teen Program and CIT Program, • Plan, organize, and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities that align with Boys & Girls Club priority outcomes (Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship, Healthy Lifestyles), • Develop and implement at least two structured, evidence-based teen programs for CITs (examples include Money Matters, Diplomas2Degrees, or Career Launch), • Adapt programming to meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of participants, • Ensure all activities are well-prepared, organized, and executed with clear instructions and expectations, • Create weekly and daily program plans, including contingency plans for weather or schedule changes CIT (Counselor-in-Training) Development • Mentor and guide CITs in developing leadership, responsibility, and workplace readiness skills, • Provide hands-on coaching in areas such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism, • Assign CITs meaningful responsibilities and support them in completing tasks effectively, • Offer constructive feedback and encouragement to support personal growth, • Model appropriate behavior, work ethic, and leadership at all times, • Facilitate reflection activities to help CITs process their experiences and growth Sports & Recreation Programming • Design, organize, and run a 3-on-3 basketball program or league for high school members, • Create schedules, teams, and rules that promote fair play, inclusion, and positive competition, • Supervise all games and practices, ensuring safety and sportsmanship, • Engage non-participating members through alternative recreational activities, • Incorporate teamwork, leadership, and character-building elements into sports programming Youth Supervision & Safety • Provide active, consistent supervision of all teens to ensure a safe and supportive environment, • Maintain awareness of all participants at all times (headcounts, transitions, etc.), • Enforce Club rules, policies, and behavioral expectations fairly and consistently, • Address conflicts or behavioral issues calmly and constructively using positive behavior management techniques, • Identify and respond appropriately to safety concerns, incidents, or emergencies, • Follow all mandated reporting requirements and Club safety protocols Relationship Building & Youth Engagement • Build strong, positive relationships with teens, creating an environment of trust and respect, • Foster a sense of belonging where all members feel included and valued, • Encourage participation, leadership, and peer support among members, • Actively engage with teens during activities rather than supervising passively, • Serve as a consistent, supportive adult role model Leadership & Site Responsibility • Serve as the lead staff member in the building when the Teen Director is not present, • Ensure all programs run smoothly and safely in the absence of direct supervision, • Make responsible decisions regarding program adjustments, safety, and behavior management, • Communicate effectively with other staff to maintain consistency across programs, • Assist in opening/closing procedures as needed Administrative & Organizational Duties • Maintain accurate attendance records and program documentation, • Assist with tracking participation and program outcomes, • Help prepare materials and supplies for daily activities, • Support communication with families and staff as needed, • Assist with special events, field trips, and guest speakers, • Ensure spaces are clean, organized, and set up for success Collaboration & Teamwork • Work closely with the Teen Director and other Club staff to align programming goals, • Support overall Club operations and assist in other program areas when needed, • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, • Contribute ideas to enhance teen engagement and program quality Qualifications • Experience working with teens (high school age strongly preferred)., • Previous experience in youth development, summer camps, education, or recreation programs, • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, • Ability to manage groups effectively and maintain structure, • Comfortable leading activities, facilitating discussions, and engaging groups, • Ability to work independently and take initiative, • Reliable, punctual, and professional Preferred Qualifications • Background in sports programming, coaching, or athletics (basketball preferred), • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain), • Experience mentoring or supervising teens in leadership roles Key Competencies • Leadership & Initiative, both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, • Ability to lift and carry program supplies as needed Work Environment • Fast-paced, high-energy summer camp setting, • Frequent interaction situations Schedule Hours: Approximately 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, MondayFriday during the summer. Hours may extend slightly on Wednesdays to accommodate field trips.
