Job DescriptionJob Title: Warehouse Material Handler / Warehouse Associate Job Description The Warehouse Material Handler plays a key role in safely receiving, storing, and distributing building materials in a busy warehouse environment. This position supports both residential and commercial supply operations, handling concrete bags, bricks, lumber, and a wide range of construction products. You will perform physically demanding tasks, operate material handling equipment, and maintain accurate inventory while following strict safety standards and working closely with a small, supportive team. Responsibilities • Load, unload, and move materials manually and with material handling equipment using pallets and push carts., • Pick and verify customer orders using pick tickets, ensuring order numbers and items match accurately., • Work with a large product mix of 500+ items scattered throughout the warehouse, maintaining strong attention to detail., • Assemble pallets for orders, including large loads such as up to 700 bricks per skid., • Shrink wrap and band pallets to secure materials for safe transport., • Handle building materials including concrete bags, bricks, lumber, and related products., • Perform inbound and outbound material handling activities to support daily warehouse operations., • Maintain accurate bin locations with a target accuracy of approximately 90%., • Organize and maintain warehouse inventory, ensuring products are stored safely and efficiently., • Operate effectively in a small warehouse environment that supports both commercial and residential supply needs., • Assist with shutdown procedures and operational changes as needed to support branch operations., • Operate forklifts for approximately 25–30% of daily tasks, following all safety guidelines., • Support general warehouse duties, including picking, packing, palletizing, and general labor, for the remainder of the shift., • Use ladders to retrieve materials stored in elevated locations., • Lift and carry materials up to 70 pounds, using team lifting for heavier items., • Build, move, and stage pallets and large material loads for shipment or storage., • Perform repeated physical tasks such as bending, lifting, climbing, and walking throughout the shift., • Support shipping and receiving activities, including checking in materials and preparing outbound shipments., • Follow all safety procedures, use provided personal protective equipment, and help maintain a clean and organized work area., • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to ensure accurate, timely, and safe order fulfillment.Essential Skills, • Previous warehouse or material handling experience preferred., • Experience with picking, packing, shipping, and receiving in a warehouse environment., • Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts safely; prior forklift experience is a plus., • Experience with palletizing and working with pallets, push carts, and similar material handling tools., • Ability to handle building materials such as lumber, concrete bags, and bricks., • Capability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift., • Strong attention to detail when matching order numbers, pick tickets, and product locations., • Ability to work safely with ladders and at elevated storage areas., • Comfort working in a lumber yard and warehouse environment with active loading and unloading of trucks., • Reliable teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with a small, close-knit team., • Willingness to follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment as required.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Prior forklift certification or formal forklift training is an advantage., • Experience working in a building materials, construction supply, or lumber yard environment is beneficial., • Familiarity with inventory organization and maintaining accurate bin locations., • Comfort working with a large catalog of products and navigating a multi-rack warehouse layout., • Strong work ethic and dependability in a physically demanding role., • Good communication skills to coordinate with warehouse and office staff.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a small branch warehouse of approximately 60,000 square feet with 7–8 racks and an attached lumber yard where trucks are regularly loaded with materials. The environment includes sensor-controlled lighting and open garage doors during operations, providing a mix of indoor and semi-open workspace. You will work alongside a small team of about eight employees on the warehouse floor and four in the office, supported by a dedicated break room. The work is hands-on and physically active, involving frequent lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and moving materials throughout the day. Closed-toe shoes are required; steel-toe footwear is not required, but jeans are recommended due to the nature of the materials handled. Shorts are acceptable within safety guidelines. Personal protective equipment such as safety gloves and safety vests is provided. The setting combines warehouse and yard operations, with regular interaction with trucks, pallets, and material handling equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
