You’ll be part of a forward-thinking group that delivers technical solutions to some of the UK’s most important energy projects. About The Programme From the start, you’ll be involved in the full design lifecycle, gaining experience across a range of activities. This could include producing detailed drawings and models, surveying equipment on site, or supporting the installation and testing of a design you’ve helped to create. Along the way, you'll develop your skills in electrical design software, circuit layout, and design analysis, with opportunities to work on everything from General Assemblies to Printed Circuit Boards. As part of our team, you'll also support the build and test stages, working alongside manufacturing and operational colleagues to bring your designs to life. It is a varied and rewarding role, with placements across different areas of the business to broaden your understanding and confidence. Safety and quality will be at the core of everything you do, guided by national and international design standards and supported by expert mentors who want to help you succeed. Your education/training As part of your apprenticeship, you'll study for the Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Standard through Loughborough College. Training will take place one day per week during term time, supported by regular reviews with your college assessor and workplace mentor. You'll also complete progress reviews every 12 weeks, with opportunities for feedback, professional discussions, and practical assessments both in college and on site. Future prospects By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll be ready to step into the role of Electrical Designer with the potential to progress through the design grades or explore broader roles across the organisation. Upon programme completion, you can expect to earn a competitive salary exceeding £39,000. You'll also have the opportunity to work toward professional registration, supported by a mentor from a recognised UK engineering institution. From there, your development doesn’t stop. Through the Babcock Role Framework, you’ll have a clear view of how your career can progress, with mapped-out pathways, development opportunities and the tools you need to get wherever you want to go. What you’ll need • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths, English and Science., • Two A Levels including Maths and Physics.
