We are currently seeking a Unit Manager (Band 7) to join our High Dependency Fernwood Unit, at our wonderful Specialist Brain Injury Neurological Care and Rehabilitation Service in Nottingham, located in the town of Hucknall, 7 miles from Nottingham City Centre and just 2 miles from the M1 Motorway. Our specialist centre provides long-term person-centred care and support for adults with either a brain injury or complex neurological condition. Located in Hucknall on the outskirts of Nottingham, we specialise in the treatment, care and support of individuals aged 18 and over with physical and cognitive impairments as a result of brain injury or other progressive neurological condition. With three distinct, yet complementary services on one site, we offer flexible care options from our specialist on-site team. The site is part of the wider Active Care Group Neuro Network (consisting of 25+ sites) nationally and we focus on the use of clinical expertise, innovation and technology to meet patient’s expectations of rehabilitation goals. Our clinical team is highly trained in the rehabilitation and care of adults with brain injuries and other neurological conditions. They are supported by three unit managers, activity therapists and a team of housekeeping, catering, maintenance and administration staff. Our services are as follows; Slow stream rehabilitation (Millwood) This service is for people who have already undergone rehabilitation and still require further therapy to reach their optimum level of recovery. It is also suitable for those who would find an intensive programme of care fatiguing and would make better progress on a longer less therapy-intensive programme. We provide a range of rehabilitation therapies to help people relearn and practice everyday skills to give them the best chance of a return home. High Dependency (Fernwood) Fernwood is our high dependency service where we look after people with particularly complex nursing care needs. Residents may, for example, have tracheostomies, require assisted ventilation or may be minimally conscious. We also care for individuals who may be in the end stage of a progressive neurological illness. Residential (Hazelwood) This service is suitable for people who, as a result of their brain injury, are unable to live at home independently usually because of the high level of nursing care they need. This service is also suitable for those who do not have complex nursing needs or require regular therapy, but still need round the clock support to manage everyday tasks, to keep safe and to have a good quality of life. What you'll be working: We can be flexible but you will work a total of 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday High Dependency (Fernwood) * This is a nurse qualified post * What you'll be doing: Through strong clinical leadership, the Unit Manager will promote excellence in nursing care, maintaining and improving clinical standards. The post holder will ensure that all residents are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect, valuing the diversity of the local community and beyond. They will be highly visible and accessible. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Develop and implement a proactive insourced occupational health strategy ensuring a balance between colleague wellbeing and business needs. Create and drive a customer-centric and relevant service, prioritising simplicity and accessibility for our diverse colleague groups. Oversee the design of a streamlined process that enables colleagues to access the support required to remain in or return to work., • Establish effective controls, clinical governance frameworks, and policies to manage workplace health risks. Ensure policies are embedded effectively and comply with employment law, health and safety regulations and clinical statutory regulatory bodies. Implement and embed best in class Occupational Health standards and accreditations. Ensure effective audit frameworks and clinical governance are in place and audit recommendations are embedded. Remain updated on changes in legal and regulatory requirements and update policies accordingly., • Lead and manage a team of OH advisors, ensuring successful execution of all occupational health operational activity across pre-employment screening, DSE assessments, night worker assessments and management referrals. Ensure a customer centric, consultative service, with comprehensive reports that comply with legislation, standards and accreditations and balances colleague wellbeing and business need. Develop team capabilities through ongoing training, mentoring, and professional development. Monitor team performance against KPIs to ensure timely, accurate, and professional service delivery. Support with the hands-on delivery of the OH service., • Lead initiatives that assess, target, and mitigate relevant workplace health risks. Partner with the wider wellbeing, people team and operational leaders, to monitor, evaluate, and address key health trends affecting the workforce. Monitor and evaluate OH programmes to measure their impact on employee health, engagement, absence and business outcomes. Provide regular MI and data to keep stakeholders informed and support decision making., • Champion a wellbeing culture across the organisation, developing evidence-based content and resource to educate and raise awareness of health and wellbeing services and reduce stigma around mental and physical health. Working closely with the wider wellbeing and engagement team to deliver impactful messaging and regular cadence. Equip managers with the necessary tools, training, and knowledge to handle Occupational Health conversations effectively and enhance manager capability in identifying, addressing, and resolving workplace health concerns. Bring together communities to share health risk mitigation and best practise., • Build and maintain external networks with occupational health professionals, industry bodies and thought leaders to stay at the forefront of industry best practise, trends and innovations to continuously enhance our wellbeing initiatives and effectiveness. Take ownership of personal clinical learning and professional development, reflect on professional practice and seek feedback to continually improve the quality of OH services provided. Maintain professional registration and meet the requirements for continued professional development (CPD) as outlined by the appropriate governing body., • Embed and manage Occupational Health technology systems. Ensure streamlined processes, accessibility, and provide actionable insights. Maintain data integrity and security, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and standards.
