Prepared/Revised Date: 03/2026 Job Summary: This position supports operations at an artist-inspired, speakeasy-style café/bar that blends elements of a 1970s Caribbean rum bar with a contemporary service experience. The role encompasses responsibilities across barista, bartender, and food service functions, requiring a high level of adaptability, efficiency, and professionalism. Key duties include preparing and serving espresso beverages and cocktails, engaging with guests to ensure a memorable experience, and maintaining service standards in a fast-paced, creative environment. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to quality and hospitality are essential. Duties and Responsibilities: • Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks, teas, and specialty beverages with precision and flair., • Craft classic and signature cocktails while maintaining consistency, speed, and adherence to recipe standards., • Greet guests with warmth, take food and beverage orders, and provide knowledgeable recommendations., • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar, barista station, and service area., • Execute table service, including delivering food and drinks, clearing tables, and checking in on guest satisfaction., • Adhere to all food safety and alcohol service regulations, including responsible serving practices., • Monitor inventory levels for coffee, spirits, bar supplies, and service ware; restock as needed., • Operate the POS system efficiently for order entry and processing guest payments., • Deliver an exceptional guest experience focused on the atmosphere through appropriate music, lighting, and presenting information on the art installation., • Assist in setup and breakdown of the space during open and close shifts., • Support teammates across roles and jump in where needed to keep things flowing smoothly., • Train contingent staff on procedures put in place by management/supervisory staff., • Aid in preparation of cocktails, cocktail ingredients, garnishes, and all other required mise en place for service. Qualifications • 3-5 years of experience in bartending, barista work, food service, or a similar fast-paced hospitality role., • Solid knowledge of cocktail recipes, espresso preparation, and barista techniques., • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage orders, prep drinks, and engage with guests simultaneously., • Outgoing, professional demeanor with a sense of humor and style — you're part of the experience, not just service., • High standards for cleanliness, efficiency, and presentation in all service areas., • Familiarity with POS systems and basic cash handling procedures., • Detail-oriented with strong time management, communication, and guest service skills., • Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to work evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays., • Ability to work independently or as part of a tight-knit team in a fast-paced, high-energy environment., • Must meet minimum age requirements for alcohol service in accordance with local laws. Performance Standards • Demonstrates an understanding of the venue’s mission and ambiance, providing service that aligns with the cultural or artistic setting and enhances the guest experience., • Consistently maintains high standards in the preparation and presentation of all beverages and food items, while being mindful of portion control and waste., • Maintains a professional, polished appearance and a positive, welcoming attitude during all shifts., • Follows all food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness protocols, ensuring workstations and service areas are consistently clean and compliant., • Manages time efficiently during high-volume service, communicates clearly with team members, and actively listens to both guests and coworkers. Physical Demands • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and move for extended periods throughout the shift., • Requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds (beverage cases, boxes, ice bins, etc.)., • Must have full use of hands and arms to shake, stir, tamp, pour, pull shots, and handle hot/cold beverages., • Sensory requirements include taste, smell, vision, and touch for drink preparation and presentation., • Work schedule regularly includes late nights and weekend shifts., • Occasional loud music, low lighting, and busy crowd conditions typical of speakeasy environments. Work Environment The café and bar environment can be lively, loud, and fast-paced. Its staff members must be able to work efficiently amid noise, music, and frequent guest interaction. This role requires handling hot beverages, sharp tools (such as kitchen knives and bar tools), glassware, and occasionally lifting or carrying heavy items such as crates, beverage cases, or equipment. Work surfaces may be hot, and floors can occasionally be wet or slippery. Safety awareness and proper handling techniques are essential at all times.
