Job Description Work Schedule: Varies not to exceed 29 hours per week; shifts based on operational needs of the organization OVERVIEW Associated Students, Inc. employs student-focused professionals with equity mindsets. Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is considered a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs, with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 27,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI is engaged in the work of being a learning organization. Currently, the guiding ideas of the organization are “under construction” as the team re-imagines its vision, mission, and core values. ASI is looking for dynamic team members who value team learning, co-creation, and adaptability to best serve the needs of our students. The Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) manages the ASI Cal Poly Pomona PADI Education SCUBA Dive Center which primarily focuses on providing on and off-campus scuba experiences and courses for the campus and greater community through a series of regularly scheduled land and water-based workshops, try-its, certification courses, and professional level training. POSITION DEFINITION Under general supervision from the Scuba Coordinator, the SCUBA Instructor I is responsible for promoting the SCUBA program at the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC). The SCUBA Instructor I is responsible for facilitation of safe, effective, and fun SCUBA-based classes in a group setting and performing skilled tasks requiring moderate on-the-job training, specialized skills, independent judgment, and decision-making. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Teach structured SCUBA classes appropriate for varying levels of SCUBA certification., • Arrive on time to set up scheduled classes or workshops and ensure that classes begin and end on time., • Clean and organize pool space and the Scuba Shack (including equipment used) after each class., • Ensure proper check-in of participants for instructional courses, workshops, and fee-based programs., • Enforce PADI standards and Safe Diving Practices., • Assist with reporting accurate class participation numbers and required paperwork., • Assist with special events as assigned., • Maintain current knowledge of other ASI (Associated Students Incorporated) and Campus Recreation programs and services., • Maintain open communication with the Scuba Coordinator., • Attend training, meetings, and workshops as required., • Maintain current SCUBA Instructor, CPR/AED and First Aid, and O2 Provider certifications., • Professional Association of Dive Professionals (PADI) Open Water SCUBA Instructor or equivalent., • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or PADI Emergency First Response or equivalent., • American Red Cross, Diver’s Alert Network (DAN), or PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider certification or equivalent., • Demonstrate ability to conduct safe SCUBA excursions to PADI standards, evaluate aquatic conditions and make independent decisions on diving safety., • No PADI quality assurance claims in the previous twelve months., • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills., • Demonstrated ability to work with and show inclusivity to an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community.
