VALUES: Desire to be great Excellent Attitude Hardworking Attention to Detail Motivated Exceptional Customer Service Do The Right Thing Every time Position Summary The Garden Specialist is responsible for maintaining and enhancing residential and commercial properties through expert horticultural care and hands-on leadership. This role leads a small gardening team and focuses on detailed plant care, seasonal color, pruning, and garden bed presentation. The Garden Specialist ensures properties are maintained at the highest aesthetic standard by applying horticultural best practices, monitoring plant health, and directing seasonal tasks. This position is ideal for a knowledgeable, detail-driven professional with a passion for beautiful landscapes and refined garden maintenance. Key Responsibilities Garden Leadership & Team Oversight • Lead and direct a small gardening team on daily routes, • Assign and oversee seasonal tasks to ensure efficiency and quality, • Train team members on proper horticultural techniques and attention to detail, • Set the standard for workmanship, cleanliness, and professionalism on-site Fine Gardening & Horticultural Care • Perform and oversee detailed garden maintenance including:, • Deadheading perennials and annuals according to season, • Pruning shrubs and ornamental trees using proper techniques and timing, • Seasonal color planting and rotation (annuals, bulbs, containers), • Installation and maintenance of focal points in garden beds, • Maintain crisp, weed-free, and well-defined landscape beds, • Ensure proper mulching, edging, and bed presentation Plant Health & Integrated Pest Management • Monitor landscapes for pests, disease, nutrient deficiencies, and stress, • Identify issues early and recommend appropriate treatments, • Coordinate or perform pest and disease control following best practices, • Adjust care based on weather, soil conditions, and plant requirements Property Presentation & Client Experience • Maintain high-end properties to premium aesthetic standards, • Inspect gardens regularly and proactively address issues, • Communicate professionally with property owners or managers as needed, • Represent the company with professionalism, courtesy, and pride Planning, Reporting & Quality Control • Plan seasonal horticultural tasks and planting schedules, • Track plant performance and recommend improvements or replacements, • Communicate progress, concerns, and needs to management, • Maintain organized, clean job sites and equipment Required Qualifications • 2+ years of hands-on horticulture, fine gardening, or landscape maintenance experience, • Proven experience pruning shrubs and ornamental trees, • Strong knowledge of plant care, seasonal timing, and garden aesthetics, • Experience leading or mentoring a small team, • Ability to identify common pests, diseases, and plant health issues, • Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship, • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions, • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record Skills & Abilities • Expert-level plant knowledge and pruning techniques, • Strong leadership and coaching skills, • Artistic eye for design, balance, and focal points, • Excellent time management and organizational skills, • Professional client-facing communication, • Problem-solving and proactive planning Work Environment & Physical Requirements • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, • Physical activity including walking, bending, kneeling, pruning, and lifting, • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, • Comfortable working with hand tools, power pruners, and ladders Benefits: • Competitive pay based on experience, • Weekly pay, • DeHamer Events and Gear, • Great Culture, • Fast learners are promoted quickly, • Overtime available.
