Job Description Job Title: Insulator Job Description This role focuses on preparing and cleaning job sites to support insulation and waterproofing projects, with a clear path to grow into installing thermal and spray foam insulation. You will use basic hand and power tools, assist with material handling, and learn the full insulation process under experienced supervision. The position is ideal for someone with construction experience who wants to develop specialized skills and advance within a supportive team environment. Responsibilities • Perform extensive prep work and cleanup to ready job sites for insulation and waterproofing activities., • Scrape excess insulation from joists, trusses, and other structural components to ensure clean and even surfaces., • Assist in the setup and operation of hoses connected to 55-gallon drums of spray foam insulation under supervision., • Use basic hand tools such as hammers, drills, and fasteners, as well as power tools, safely and effectively., • Support the installation of thermal insulation and spray foam insulation as skills and experience increase., • Help with general construction tasks including framing, rough carpentry, and finish work as needed., • Assist with tasks related to roofing, drywall, flooring, tile, caulking, painting, and concrete work when required., • Read and follow directions from supervisors and foremen, including basic blueprint and layout guidance., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout each project., • Wear a respirator and other required personal protective equipment correctly and consistently., • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines on commercial construction sites such as hospitals, schools, universities, office buildings, and stadiums., • Collaborate with supervisors and crew members, supporting a team of 3–4 people on each project., • Demonstrate attention to detail in all tasks to ensure high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction., • Travel to various job sites as assigned, including occasional overnight stays when required. Essential Skills • At least 1 year of construction experience in areas such as carpentry, concrete, insulation, or remediation work (excluding landscaping)., • Experience working with basic hand tools, including hammers, drills, and other common construction tools., • Familiarity with general construction tasks such as framing, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, roofing, drywall, flooring, tile, and installation work., • Ability to work safely at different heights on commercial construction sites., • Valid driver’s license., • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills., • Ability to follow safety protocols and wear a respirator and other protective equipment as required., • Capability to work effectively as part of a crew under the direction of a supervisor or foreman., • Willingness to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in insulation installation, including spray foam or thermal insulation, is a plus., • Experience in commercial construction environments such as hospitals, schools, universities, office buildings, or stadiums., • Exposure to tasks such as caulking, painting, piping, concrete work, and commercial construction finishing., • Ability to read or interpret basic blueprints or construction drawings., • Experience using power tools safely and efficiently., • Interest in learning advanced insulation techniques and growing into more specialized installation responsibilities., • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to learning., • Experience working under a foreman, superintendent, or similar construction leadership is beneficial. Work Environment You will work on vacant commercial job sites that are either being renovated or built from the ground up, including hospitals, schools, universities, office buildings, and stadiums. Crews typically consist of a supervisor and 3–4 team members, creating a collaborative and supportive environment focused on teaching and development. The role involves frequent use of basic hand and power tools, as well as hoses connected to 55-gallon drums of spray foam insulation. You will be required to wear a respirator and other appropriate personal protective equipment at all times when handling insulation materials. The workday includes travel from the shop to various job locations, with occasional overnight stays depending on project needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $35.00/hr.
