Job Description The Callaway County Health Department is accepting applications for a full-time Medical Biller / Public Health Receptionist position. The starting salary for this position is $35,360 annually (or $17.00 per hour) and comes with a full benefits package, including free health insurance, two retirement programs, paid sick/vacation/holiday leave, free life insurance policies, and much more. The Public Health Receptionist/Medical Biller serves as the first point of contact for clients and visitors of the Callaway County Health Department. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service, scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with medical billing and insurance claims. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism. The Callaway County Health Department is located at 4950 County Road 304 in Fulton, MO and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm. Callaway County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Benefits Hourly Base Salary Based on Experience Paid Time Off (PTO) Health Insurance Life Insurance Hands on Training Mon-Fri Schedule Retirement Plan Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Employee Discounts Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Reception / Front Desk Duties: • Greet clients, visitors, and staff in a professional and welcoming manner., • Answer and direct incoming phone calls, take messages, and provide general information., • Schedule and confirm appointments, coordinate with staff for client needs., • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional reception area., • Assist clients with forms, registration, and program information. Medical Billing Duties: • Prepare, submit, and track insurance claims, ensuring accuracy and timeliness., • Post payments, reconcile accounts, and follow up on outstanding claims or denials., • Review insurance explanations of benefits (EOBs) and resolve discrepancies., • Perform eligibility verification for Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance prior to services., • Code medical services and procedures accurately using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes., • Generate client statements, set up payment plans, and manage collections as needed., • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local billing regulations., • Work closely with providers and program staff to ensure accurate documentation for claims., • Assist in preparing billing reports and tracking revenue cycles., • Ensure strict confidentiality of patient and billing information according to HIPAA standards. Administrative Support: • Maintain accurate client records in electronic health systems., • Assist staff with clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and correspondence., • Support department programs and services through scheduling, communication, and recordkeeping., • Perform other duties as assigned to support public health operations. Work Environment: • Full-time, in-office position., • Standard office hours, with occasional flexibility required to meet department needs., • Professional public health setting with interaction with diverse community members. Requirements Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in medical billing or office administration preferred., • Experience in medical billing, insurance processing, or related healthcare administrative role strongly preferred., • Strong customer service and communication skills., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical record (EMR) systems., • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and work effectively in a team environment.
