Job Description Maintenance Technician III Job Description This role leads and supports a team of service technicians in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of automated packaging, material handling, and distribution equipment. You will design and implement solutions for complex maintenance problems, manage technical projects, and ensure the reliability and safety of high-speed, highly automated systems, including conveyors, robotics, and related electro-mechanical and pneumatic equipment. Responsibilities • Lead and support service technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging, material handling, and distribution equipment., • Support the Operations Maintenance team in repairing and maintaining material handling equipment, such as conveyors, and pneumatic systems throughout the facility., • Install, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of electrical and control components, including photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders., • Perform predictive and preventive maintenance procedures on complex mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems to maximize equipment uptime and reliability., • Diagnose and resolve issues in automated conveyor systems and controls, including mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults., • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to support troubleshooting, repairs, and installations., • Apply electrical and electronic principles to analyze system performance, identify root causes of failures, and implement corrective actions., • Ensure all work complies with material handling equipment safety standards and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements., • Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create, update, and close work orders, document work performed, and track parts and equipment history., • Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks and provide clear feedback on potential improvements to maintenance procedures and schedules., • Provide input on the preventive maintenance program, suggesting enhancements to improve equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency., • Collaborate with Operations, Safety, and other stakeholders to coordinate complex maintenance activities and minimize impact on production., • Work with and coordinate external vendors as needed for specialized maintenance, repairs, or projects., • Act in a team lead capacity by supporting, training, and mentoring less experienced technicians in technical skills and safe work practices., • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance equipment performance, safety, and maintenance processes., • Contribute to project management activities, including planning, scheduling, and executing maintenance-related projects., • Use Microsoft Office applications to document work, prepare reports, and communicate with internal stakeholders., • Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and adapt to changing priorities and workloads as needed. Essential Skills • At least 4 years of experience performing quality predictive and preventive maintenance procedures on industrial or automated systems., • At least 4 years of experience repairing material handling equipment (MHE) or automated conveyor systems and controls., • At least 4 years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints and electrical schematics., • At least 4 years of knowledge and hands-on experience with electrical and electronic principles., • At least 3 years of experience troubleshooting and diagnosing material handling equipment systems., • At least 4 years of experience working with MHE safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety requirements., • At least 3 years of experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)., • At least 1 year of experience using Microsoft Office products and applications., • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems., • Hands-on experience with automated conveyor systems, including diagnostics, repairs, and adjustments., • Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair components such as photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders., • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays., • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience performing industrial maintenance in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or industrial environments on complex systems and equipment., • Experience running diagnostics, inspections, troubleshooting, repairing, and creating work orders for conveyors and other industrial equipment., • Knowledge of conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, schematics, motors, wiring, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and controls., • Experience working and coordinating with external vendors for maintenance and repair activities., • Continuous improvement mindset with a strong desire to learn and grow within a reliability and maintenance engineering environment., • Experience working with multiple stakeholders, such as Operations and Safety teams, to coordinate complex maintenance activities., • Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in Mechanical or Electrical fields., • At least 2 years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the Mechanical or Electrical field., • At least 2 years of experience working with PLC-based control systems., • At least 2 years of experience with robotic operation and maintenance., • Experience acting in a team lead capacity, supporting, training, and mentoring less experienced technicians., • Project management experience, including planning, organizing, and executing maintenance or technical projects. Work Environment You will work in a large, high-speed distribution facility that relies heavily on automation and robotic components, including extensive conveyor and material handling systems. The environment is data-driven, with performance tracked through systems that measure output and adherence to expectations, while still allowing autonomy in how you organize your work. The role is physically active and requires comfort with walking significant distances, often around 10,000 steps per day, and moving items weighing up to 49 pounds. You will work around advanced electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and robotic equipment and use tools such as CMMS software, diagnostic instruments, and standard maintenance tools. Schedules follow 10-hour shifts, and all candidates must be open to working any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tallahassee, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $42.65 - $42.65/hr.
