1st Class Pipe Welder - 2nd shift Purpose: Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a 1st Class Pipe Welder to support 2nd shift operations in our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA. Job Description: • Weld together metal components of products, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using electric arc-welding equipment., • Select and execute best method to prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter and to clean, degrease, deoxidize, or desmut weld joint or work piece, using wire brush, portable grinder, or solvent clean/chemical bath, • Weld completion in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions for at least three base materials using a wide variety of processes., • Fabricate brackets, panels, complex beams and shape structures., • Plumb transverse bulkheads and panels to fabricate enclosures, complex weldments, shapes, plates, simple and complex parts from a drawing or sketch., • Operate and set up of the following equipment; hydraulic jacks and pumps, chain falls, come a longs, Steamboat Ratchets, and slings., • Expertly repair base metal products and completed welds by adding the minimum amount of weld metal or heat and the minimum amount of grinding/smoothing to meet job specification., • Also perform air-arc back gouging and oxy-acetylene torching (e.g. brazing, cutting, or pre-heating), GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), and pipe welding, pipe flange and socket welding; as well as qualify to perform either flux cored inner shield welding, weld overlay cladding, automated back gouging, plasma back gouging or any combination thereof., • Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required and always mark completed welds with welder number., • Perform single pass 5/16-inch minimum fillet welds in all positions using FCAW on carbon steel and at least ¼-inch single-pass fillets on two other materials., • Supervise set up to perform welding in accordance with applicable WPS all welding equipment such as: wire feeders, Sub-arc tractors, Bug O's, Power sources, etc., • Clean torches and connect/lay-out cables and whips to optimize performance and perform routine maintenance on all equipment., • Recommend WPSs and WPS upgrades required for a job; when assigned, produces or supervises production, documentation, and testing of PQRs and WPQs., • Reliable, leads by example; trains less-killed welders, enforces good workmanship and safe welding practices throughout the work area; identifies gaps in weld process controls and weld process surveillance inspections and recommends corrective action., • Perform comprehensive workmanship inspection, and when directed those of others, of all welds grinding and joint preparation for NDT processes as applicable; observe QA/NDT hold points as applicable., • Complete standard dimensional computations/ Devise bracing and weld sequencing steps to maintain tolerances and minimize distortions., • Must have at least seven (7) years of Pipe Welding experience., • Must have experience working in physically demanding environments., • Prefer certifications in all positions using the SMAW and GTAW welding processes., • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs., • Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes., • May ride ships at sea for extended periods, • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels., • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment., • Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts., • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl., • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. Combination Welder/Shipfitter General Foreman - Steel America Purpose: Steel America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a Combination Welder/Shipfitter General Foreman to support operations at our site in Norfolk, VA. *Dislocation support available on a case-by-case basis, up to $5,000. Position Summary: Position maintains detailed understanding of project specifications and all requirements necessary for appropriate trades support, ensuring safe and efficient production in ship repair/industrial fabrication operations. Provides oversight to qualified trades workforce & trades supervision and is responsible for meeting overall schedule, budget, quality, and safety goals of work assigned. The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations. Position may require limited travel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Supports labor requirements for completion of job assignment. Understand specifications, blueprints, and job orders in order to effectively communicate duties to work teams. Maintains adequate personnel/manning levels, production space, tooling, and equipment assets, while establishing work processes to meet production schedules. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crews. Analyzes and resolves work problems to minimize disruptions to production schedule. Key responsibilities include: • Manages all shop resources by assigning trades personnel to Foremen based on project needs., • Supports trades foremen in supervising, assigning, coordinating, training, and evaluating semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience, and job knowledge. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees and assists in development of training processes/procedures. Continually monitor foremen's project designations, deck plate presence, understanding of work scope, and efficiency of trades management., • Manages lifecycle of shop personnel through all phases of employment, to include: hiring and retention efforts of shop personnel, as well as developing/delivering coaching and disciplinary actions needed to address performance concerns. Responsible for personnel administration needs, to include recommendations/handling of change requests facilitated by EANs (pay, reclassification, etc.)., • Engaged in workforce development by identifying candidates for additional development/mentorship opportunities, support succession planning efforts, and ensuring assigned apprentices have appropriate oversight and developmental resources., • Breaks broad projects down to practical action plans, ensuring adequate shop manning resources, and develops/executes POD for all shop resources (with the input of Foreman) daily to ensure production goals are executed safely and efficiently., • Responsible for final approval and presentation of all project deliverables via condition reports and approval/management of all material orders, ensuring contractual requirements and period of performance are met., • Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. and manages test and inspection plans for assigned areas (overseeing submittal of required documentation, ensure foreman attend inspections as required, etc.)., • Must have a Bachelors/Registered Apprentice (grad) and at least 2 years relative trades experience (or HS + 6 years trades experience) and at least 2 years of prior supervisory experience., • Must be able to demonstrate ability to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), and FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)., • Must have knowledge of AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel) and NAVSEA code/requirements (MIL-STD-1688 & MIL-STD-1689)., • Must have both welding and fitting experience in new industrial fabrication/new construction., • Must have at least one (1) year of experience in welding automation., • Must be able to understand job specifications, drawings, and corresponding technical references years supervisory experience., • Must have well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with employees/leadership/customers and prepare/deliver written reports and correspondence., • Must have regular, reliable attendance.\n\n Preferred Skills/Qualifications: • Exposure to or experience supporting multiple trades is highly preferred, • Experience performing visual inspections of welds and fit ups preferred., • Ability to perform GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) preferred., • Experience or certification in welding NDT preferred., • CWI certification preferred.\n\n Travel Requirements: • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes.
