Make an impact from day one in a fast‑paced, high‑expectation environment This is not a standard support role. We’re looking for a senior, self‑sufficient Systems Support Engineer to step into a visible, trusted position within a highly professional, technically literate organisation operating at the top end of financial services. This is a hands‑on contract role where you’ll own complex issues end‑to‑end, act as a senior escalation point, and work directly with demanding stakeholders who value clarity, judgement, and confidence. If you thrive in environments where communication matters as much as technical skill, and where your work is immediately felt by senior decision‑makers, this role will suit you perfectly. The role at a glance As the senior L2/L3 presence within the service desk function, you’ll: • Take ownership of complex, business‑critical incidents, seeing them through to full resolution, • Act as a calm, credible escalation point for both technical teams and senior users, • Balance day‑to‑day operational support with meaningful contribution to in‑flight infrastructure and security projects, • Work deeply within Microsoft 365 as the firm’s core collaboration and productivity platform, • Engage with a technically sophisticated user base, including senior stakeholders, where clear explanation and sound judgement are essential This is a role for someone who is comfortable operating independently, can quickly earn trust, and knows how to prioritise in a high‑expectation setting. What you’ll be responsible for • Owning and resolving L2/L3 incidents across Windows, macOS, M365, identity, networking, and endpoint tooling, • Administering the Microsoft 365 estate: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune, and Azure AD / Entra ID, • Managing identity and access across the user lifecycle - onboarding, offboarding, access changes, and permissions, • Applying and maintaining security and compliance controls including conditional access, MFA, DLP, retention, and endpoint compliance, • Using PowerShell to automate administration, reduce manual effort, and accelerate resolution, • Supporting and, where appropriate, leading IT initiatives such as security improvements, cloud changes, and tooling enhancements, • Identifying recurring issues and driving root‑cause resolution, not papering over symptoms, • Keeping systems and process documentation accurate, clear, and genuinely useful, • Communicating directly with senior users in a composed, professional, solutions‑focused manner What you’ll bring • 5+ years’ experience in enterprise IT support, with strong L2/L3 exposure, • Deep, hands‑on Microsoft 365 administration experience - this is essential, • Confident troubleshooting across Windows and macOS in mixed‑OS environments, • Strong working knowledge of Azure AD / Entra ID, conditional access, MFA, and identity governance, • Experience applying M365 security and compliance features as standard practice, • Practical PowerShell scripting capability, • Solid networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VPN, TCP/IP), • Experience working with structured ITSM platforms and managing SLAs, • The confidence and judgement to engage credibly with senior, commercially focused stakeholders Experience in financial services or private equity environments is highly advantageous, though not essential. Why this role stands out • Immediate responsibility and visibility - you’re trusted to operate at senior level from day one, • A genuinely professional user base who value clarity, discretion, and competence, • The chance to influence how systems, security, and support are delivered - even on a contract, • Competitive day‑rate equivalent / salary for a six‑month engagement, • A role where your communication style and stakeholder presence are as important as your technical strength Note this role is being hired for a 6 month parental leave cover, on a temporary contract basis. Start date at the beginning of June.
