Job Description Job Description Date: March 25, 2026 Job Title: Assistant Lower School Learning Specialist Primary Purpose: The Assistant Lower School Learning Specialist supports lower school students with learning strategies, organization, and study skills; provides individual instruction as appropriate; and serves as a resource for families, faculty, and administration Reports To: Lower School Director/Lower School Learning Specialist Receives Work Direction From: Lower School Director Receives Direct Reports From: N/A Provides Work Direction To: N/A FLSA Category: Exempt Full-Time/Part-Time/Benefits: Full-Time with Benefits Probation Period: First three (3) years of employment Representative Responsibilities of this Position: • Be present where needed, ready to work as needed to meet responsibilities., • Advance the mission, vision and values to Mounds Park Academy., • Provide an example of punctuality and attendance for all meetings, in-services, parent-teacher conferences, open houses, etc., • Supervise and maintain informal contact with students and staff members in the commons, hallways, classrooms, etc., • Attend student co-curricular events and accept a fair share of chaperone duties as requested or needed., • Ensure the safety of students and be prepared to respond to or manage a crisis (e.g., fire alarm, building evacuation or lock-down, etc.)., • Make connections and build relationships with students to support their academic achievement and social growth., • Provide direct academic support: push-in, pull-out, small groups, one-on-one, and various support in classrooms., • Maintain confidential student records and documentation of diagnosis and support plans., • Provide testing accommodations for classes., • Act as a historian and student advocate., • Provide accessibility to audiobooks and assistive technology., • Provide fidgets, pencil grips, and other materials that offer support., • Provide general guidance, support, and consultation to families., • In conjunction with the Learning Specialist, consult and provide resources for assessments, tutoring, and outside support., • In conjunction with the Learning Specialist, guide and support families through the assessment process; coordinate paperwork for assessments., • Attend evaluation and support plan meetings., • Communicate with prospective families., • Communicate and collaborate with teachers regarding student achievement, progress, and support plans., • Support teaching staff by offering resources, assistance, and advice to enable faculty to better meet the needs of all learners., • Provide guidance and support with making accommodations; observe in classrooms as requested., • Assess student learning upon requestion from a teacher and with support from the Learning Specialist., • Collaborate and communicate effectively with Division Directors and the Administration regarding student achievement, progress, and support., • Participate on Guidance Team for Lower School., • Consult with Admissions Team; attend admissions events, as needed., • Assist admission candidates, as needed., • Professional responsibilities, • Maintain knowledge of current research and trends related to students with learning differences., • Develop and maintain communication and documentation protocols related to learning support., • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills., • Demonstrate and model a positive, professional and collaborative approach., • Maintain confidentiality., • Participate in department work and on assigned committees., • School-wide Responsibilities:, • Display high integrity at all times and be a role model for students., • Communicate respectfully and effectively following the Civil Discourse Policy with parents, students, teachers, staff, administration, visitors, and volunteers., • Support and facilitate the initiatives of the MPA strategic plan and positively contribute to school-wide committee work., • Actively participate in department meetings, divisional initiatives, the curriculum review process, and evaluation of curriculum and programs., • Support colleagues and show leadership with peers., • Promote and support admission initiatives to recruit new students., • Take part in professional development days., • Attending evening and weekend activities including but not limited to open houses, curriculum nights, and all back to school events., • Ability to handle, maintain, and demonstrate business maturity with extremely confidential and sensitive information., • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as requested by the Head of School or as deemed necessary for safe and efficient operation of the school in order to fulfill the mission of Mounds Park Academy. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear when working with students, families, teachers and administration. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Working Environment Work is performed in an office/classroom/school environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild-moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university., • Three years related experience and/or training., • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational/psychoeducational assessment reports. Ability to implement student support plans based on assessment results. Ability to communicate information to students, families, teachers and administration., • Ability to work with mathematical concepts to support students through lower school math classes., • Ability to work with literary concepts to support students through lower school literacy classes., • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions when working with others. Preferred Qualifications • Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field. Or working towards a Master’s Degree., • Training or teacher licensure in special education/learning disabilities/literacy., • Experience with a multi-sensory based reading program (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar training)., • Experience with Singapore Math.
