Title: MCAD Engineer (Speaker Design Engineering) Location: Knoxville, TN 37914 (Hybrid: 3x/Week onsite) Contract: 6+ Months, Long-term, Renewable. Industry: Speaker Design Engineering. Basic Function Supports the Speaker Design Engineering Department by creating 2D drawings and 3D design data in Siemens NX 2306 for a variety of product types, including plastic injection-molded components, hot-plate welded assemblies, metal stamped parts, and designs utilizing cloth, paper, and other pliable materials. Collaborates with engineers or Senior CAD designers in the design and drafting of working layouts, surface models, and master drawings of components, assemblies, and systems from specifications, sketches, models, prototypes, or verbal and written instructions. ACCOUNTABILITIES • Utilizes Siemens NX 19, 2306, and 2506 versions to design and manipulate complex 3D geometry, including solid modeling, advanced surfacing, and assembly management for speaker system components and enclosures., • Creates and modifies 2D drawings to PASA and customer standards, applying GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles to ensure dimensional robustness and identification of critical-to-quality dimensions as necessary., • Designs plastic injection-molded components with working knowledge of draft angles, wall thickness, gate location, tooling requirements, and general part feasibility considerations, and applies knowledge of hot-plate welding design principles for plastic component assemblies, ensuring proper joint design and weld flange geometry., • Designs metal stamped and metal-formed components with an understanding of forming processes, material spring-back, and tooling constraints., • Designs components and assemblies utilizing cloth, paper, foam, and other pliable or soft materials, understanding their unique geometric and manufacturing constraints., • Performs complex surface design work, including Class A surface creation and design studio interface coordination as directed., • Imports and exports CAD data in various formats (IGES, STEP, DXF, DWG, e-Drawing, etc.) as required by engineering, purchasing, customer, and sales teams. Manages and transfers files using Siemens Teamcenter for PLM data management, including periodic file transfers to and from customer Teamcenter databases., • Works within customer-specific CAD and PDM/PLM environments (Teamcenter, CATIA V6 Digital Collaboration Environment (DCE), etc.) as required by project needs. May employ quality improvement and supplier relations approaches utilizing customer-required formats such as APQP and PPAP techniques within project work, as applicable., • Confers with design engineers and team leaders for design direction, accommodating multiple changes and design variations as needed., • Generates CAD System BOM (Bill of Materials) structures and library components to support mechanical layouts and design data packages., • Reviews data and reports for quality compliance; reacts to quality issues and takes corrective action as appropriate., • Interprets specifications and job orders., • Interprets and complies with Company policies, procedures, and regulations., • Performs other related duties as assigned. SCOPE AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS PROBLEM-SOLVING / KNOW HOW Either: • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in at least one STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) or a related field plus a minimum of three (3) years of relevant MCAD experience; or, • A minimum of six (6) years of MCAD experience using Siemens NX., • Equivalent trade or technical school training combined with demonstrated hands-on experience will be considered. REQUIREMENTS • Proficiency with Siemens NX 19, 2306, and 2506 versions is required; candidate must be efficient in both 2D drawing creation and 3D design data development, including solid modeling and surfacing., • Knowledge and experience with plastic injection mold part design, including understanding of draft angles, wall thickness, gate location, and general tooling requirements., • Knowledge and understanding of hot-plate welding processes and design requirements for plastic component assemblies., • Experience with precision mechanical design, including moving components with less than 1 mm clearance., • Experience with surface design and design studio interface., • Experience with metal stamping and metal-formed part design, including forming process knowledge and tooling constraints., • Experience designing with pliable materials such as cloth, paper, foam, and other flexible or soft substrates., • Experience with complex 3D surface design techniques and design studio interface coordination., • Proficiency with Siemens Teamcenter for PLM data management is required; experience working within customer Teamcenter database environments is a strong plus., • Knowledge of CATIA V5 and/or V6 is preferred., • Knowledge and understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for 2D drawing creation and ease of part measurement requirements., • Knowledge to import and export CAD data in various formats (IGES, STEP, DXF, DWG, e-Drawing, etc.)., • Experience with CAD BOM (Bill of Materials) structure, drawing creation, and engineering release processes., • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook as appropriate to the position. MANAGEMENT Operates independently on assigned projects; escalates design conflicts or technical issues to senior engineer or manager as needed. The role requires experience designing plastic injection-molded parts, hot-plate welded plastic assemblies, metal-stamped/formed components, and pliable materials such as cloth, paper, and foam, along with precision mechanical design involving <1 mm clearances. Responsibilities include applying GD&T, creating CAD BOMs and engineering releases, managing CAD data through Siemens Teamcenter, working in customer PDM/PLM environments such as Teamcenter and CATIA V6 DCE, and importing/exporting IGES, STEP, DXF, DWG, e-Drawing and other CAD formats. Candidates need either a Bachelor’s degree in STEM/related field plus 3+ years of relevant MCAD experience, or 6+ years of Siemens NX MCAD experience, with equivalent technical/trade training considered. Preferred qualifications include CATIA V5/V6 knowledge, APQP/PPAP exposure, and strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The position requires independent project execution, clear technical communication with engineering, manufacturing, customers, and suppliers, quality/compliance awareness, ability to interpret specifications and instructions, required training/certifications, and approximately 0–5% travel.
