Job Description Position Overview The Flight Follower is responsible for the operational control and coordination of company flights in accordance with applicable aviation regulations and company policies. Working under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the Flight Follower continuously monitors and supports aircraft and crew movements, ensuring safe, legal, and efficient operations. This role acts as a critical communication link between flight crews, dispatch, maintenance, crew scheduling, and management, maintaining situational awareness of all active flights and ensuring timely responses to any irregular operations. Key Responsibilities • Flight Monitoring & Operational Control, • Track and monitor all company flights from departure to arrival, ensuring compliance with flight plans and operational limitations., • Maintain real-time communication with flight crews to relay weather updates, route changes, operational notices, and company messages., • Confirm that each flight is operated in accordance with FAA Part 135 / Part 121 or Public Aircraft Operations (PAO) regulations, company manuals, and safety procedures., • Record aircraft movements, flight times, and any significant operational events in flight following systems or logs., • Monitor en route weather, NOTAMs, and airspace restrictions, providing timely updates to flight crews as necessary., • Assist in coordinating diversions or alternate airport planning due to weather, maintenance, or operational issues., • Support coordination of state or government-declared operations, ensuring alignment with mission objectives, security protocols, and authorized procedures., • Facilitate coordination with federal, state, or municipal agencies for mission-related flight activities., • Coordination & Communication, • Maintain constant communication with maintenance control, crew scheduling, and dispatch to ensure proper coordination of aircraft, crew, and resources., • Notify appropriate personnel of flight delays, cancellations, or irregular operations (IROPs)., • Support dispatchers and schedulers in adjusting operational plans during disruptions or emergencies., • Serve as a primary point of contact for flight crew inquiries and flight status updates., • Documentation & Reporting, • Ensure accurate and timely input of flight movement data into operational tracking systems., • Prepare and distribute operational reports, including daily flight summaries, aircraft status, and delay logs., • Assist in post-flight analysis and performance review as directed by management., • Maintain proper documentation of all flight-related communications and decisions for compliance and auditing purposes., • Safety & Compliance, • Ensure all flights are operated within regulatory limits for duty times, aircraft performance, and fuel planning., • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of aviation regulations, company operations specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)., • Support company Safety Management System (SMS) activities by reporting and documenting operational irregularities and hazards., • Participate in periodic safety meetings, operational audits, and training sessions., • Emergency & Irregular Operations Support, • Act as part of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) when required., • Coordinate emergency communications between flight crews, company management, and emergency services as needed., • High school diploma or equivalent (required)., • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Science, or related field (preferred)., • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in flight operations, dispatch, or air traffic monitoring environment., • Must possess an active Secret (or TS/SCI) security clearance or be eligible to obtain one., • Experience in Part 135 or Part 121 operations preferred., • Familiarity with flight tracking systems (e.g., FlightAware, Spidertracks, ForeFlight, ARINC) and flight planning software., • FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate (preferred but not always required for Part 135 operations)., • Current CPR/First Aid Certification (optional)., • Excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure., • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities., • Proficient in computer-based flight tracking and scheduling systems., • Knowledge of aeronautical charts, meteorology, and aviation terminology., • High attention to detail, accuracy, and regulatory compliance., • Competitive salary based on experience and certifications., • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance., • Travel benefits and company flight privileges (if applicable)., • Paid training and professional development opportunities., • Career progression into Flight Dispatcher, Operations Controller, or Operations Manager roles., • This position does not offer relocation assistance; local candidates are preferred.
