Job Description The Manager – Engineering is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering Department at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. This role ensures that all building systems, equipment, and facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards and resort expectations. The Manager leads maintenance operations, preventive maintenance programs, repair activities, and construction-related projects while upholding the highest standards of safety, reliability, and guest service. This position also oversees the development and implementation of equipment operation training programs and safety protocols to promote consistent operational practices across the property. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Plans, prioritizes, directs, and inspects the work of engineering team members to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental standards., • Oversees preventive maintenance programs and repair operations for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and related building systems., • Manages maintenance and service contracts, including preparation, negotiation, review, and administration to ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards., • Coordinates special projects by developing cost estimates, reviewing construction documents, preparing technical specifications and scopes of work, and evaluating bid proposals., • Conducts on-site inspections and monitors contractor performance to ensure adherence to project specifications, safety standards, and timelines., • Evaluates, negotiates, and approves change orders and contractor invoices in accordance with contract terms and delegated authority., • Oversees construction and renovation projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and approved plans., • Assesses the condition of buildings, infrastructure, and grounds to identify maintenance, repair, and capital improvement needs., • Evaluates workforce capacity, materials, and operational demands to establish priorities and optimize service delivery., • Implements and manages operational systems including wastewater treatment, emergency power generation, and grounds maintenance., • Develops and implements equipment operation training programs for forklifts, scissor lifts, and other property equipment to ensure safe and consistent use across engineering and casino departments., • Establishes and reinforces safety protocols, regulatory compliance standards, and best practices to enhance workplace safety and operational effectiveness., • Monitors departmental budgets, inventory controls, and program effectiveness through inspections and performance improvement initiatives., • Participates in hands-on maintenance tasks as necessary to support operational needs., • Requires strong leadership and motivational skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff, management, government officials, and the public., • Maintains departmental staffing by recruiting, selecting, onboarding, and training team members; ensures a safe, secure, and compliant work environment while promoting professional development opportunities., • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with individuals of all personality types., • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise comprehensive maintenance and operations programs, including building systems and grounds management., • Strong knowledge of methods, practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of structures and landscaping., • Familiarity with practices, procedures, and legal requirements related to vehicle maintenance and operations., • Understanding of inventory control principles and experience in developing and managing departmental budgets., • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field required. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree., • Professional certifications (e.g., HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or Facilities Management) strongly preferred., • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in engineering, maintenance, or facilities operations required., • At least 2 years of management or senior supervisory experience overseeing engineering or maintenance teams., • Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems., • Proven experience managing preventive maintenance programs, capital projects, and regulatory compliance., • Skilled in vendor and contractor management, budget preparation, and expense control., • Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS), energy efficiency practices, and sustainability initiatives preferred., • Prior experience in a large commercial, hospitality, or gaming facility strongly preferred. Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively in person, by phone, and in writing with engineering staff, department heads, executive leadership, contractors, and regulatory personnel; responsible for directing operations, resolving issues, and ensuring compliance documentation is complete., • Lifting and Carrying: Occasionally lifts and moves tools, plans, or small equipment weighing up to 40 pounds; may assist in physical inspections or emergency maintenance situations., • Manual Dexterity: Frequently uses hands and fingers to operate computers, review technical drawings, sign off on work orders, and occasionally handle tools or diagnostic devices., • Mobility: Frequently walks throughout the property, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, utility corridors, and exterior spaces to supervise team members, inspect work, or respond to facility concerns., • Stationary Work: Frequently remains seated for extended periods while preparing reports, conducting planning meetings, reviewing project budgets, or working in computerized maintenance management systems., • Tool Operation: Regular use of computers, building automation systems, project management tools, and office equipment; occasional use of testing instruments or hand tools for oversight and demonstration purposes., • Visual Acuity: Requires excellent near and far vision to read blueprints, inspect systems and facilities, detect infrastructure issues, and review detailed documentation. This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions. WORKING HOURS: Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
