Job Description Job Title Summer Communications Intern Primary Purpose The communications intern helps advance current community member communications. This position serves every department and classroom in the organization in order to effectively communicate the benefits of an MPA education and the information current families and other supporters need to know. Receives Direct Reports From N/A Provides Work Direction To N/A Reports To Director of Enrollment Strategy and Communication Receives Work Direction From Director of Enrollment Strategy and Communication Marketing and Communication Manager Admission and Communication Coordinator FLSA Category Exempt Full-Time/Part-Time/Benefits Full-time, temporary, May 22-August 31 (dates are flexible) Representative Responsibilities of this Position: • Advance the mission, vision, and values of Mounds Park Academy., • Be present where needed, ready to work as needed to meet responsibilities., • Provide an example of punctuality and attendance for all meetings, in-services, parent-teacher conferences, open houses, etc., • Supervise and maintain informal contact with students and staff members in the commons, hallways, classrooms,etc., • Attend student co-curricular events and accept a fair share of chaperone duties as requested or needed., • Ensure the safety of students and be prepared to respond to or manage a crisis(e.g., fire alarm, building evacuation or lock-down, etc.), • Create engaging social media content for the school’s platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others) by capturing photos and video, drafting posts, and highlighting the energy of summer programs, campus events, and the daily life of the MPA community., • Tell compelling stories about MPA by interviewing students, campers, faculty, and staff and helping transform those conversations into short feature stories, blog posts, or social media content that showcase the spirit and impact of the school., • Using established brand standards, design and prepare digital and print communications—including newsletters, announcements, and promotional materials—that help families, prospective students, and community members stay connected to what’s happening on campus and get ready for the new school year., • Support summer admission efforts by assisting with off-campus events, preparing materials, capturing event content, and helping share highlights with prospective families., • Help keep the school’s website fresh and engaging by updating content and ensuring key information remains current and easy to navigate., • Organize and maintain communications calendars, brand assets, and shared files so the marketing and communications team can efficiently plan, collaborate, and execute projects., • Contribute to a variety of creative and operational communications projects—such as proofreading, light research, and content preparation—while gaining hands-on experience in how a professional communications office operates., • Be an active, positive, and contributing member of the school community, • Display high integrity at all times and be a role model for students., • Communicate respectfully and effectively, following theCivilDiscourse Policy with parents, students, teachers, staff, administration, visitors, and volunteers., • Support and facilitate the initiatives of the MPA strategic plan and positively contribute to school-wide committee work., • Support colleagues and demonstrate leadership with peers., • Understand and fulfill all aspects of the employee handbook., • Maintain appropriate boundaries with students., • Hands-on experience in marketing, communications, and storytelling within a vibrant independent school community., • Opportunities to create real content—including social media posts, photography, video, and written stories—that will be featured on the school’s official channels and used in future marketing materials., • Experience collaborating with professionals across admission, development, and school leadership to understand how communications supports enrollment, community engagement, and philanthropy., • Mentorship and feedback from experienced marketing and communications professionals. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and/or hear. Additionally, the ability to bend and/or twist and have strong close and far vision and depth perception will be frequently called upon as this employee interacts with all ages of children. The employee will occasionally lead marketing efforts and as such, color vision may be utilized in the review of marketing collateral. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds during event set-up or with office supplies. Frequent keyboard and computer use comprise a significant amount of daily activity. Occasional evening and weekend work required. WORKING ENVIRONMENT The working environment is primarily comprised of office and school facilities. The employee will work alone, with others in small and large groups, and amongst both a traditional office environment as well as with students and faculty in a busy school environment. This includes frequent exposure to moderate noise levels and occasional exposure to loud noise levels produced by large groups of students. An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • A degree in progress in a related field such as journalism, communications, English, or marketing., • One year of relevant experience., • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and the Adobe Suite on a Mac., • Self-motivated, willing to learn, and organized with a keen attention to detail., • Demonstrated ability to produce compelling, accurate content., • A sincere commitment to MPA’s mission and the willingness to be a visible, enthusiastic brand ambassador., • Passion for what is good for children and families., • Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills that are consistently applied to members of the MPA community., • A recent bachelor’s degree in a related field such as journalism, communications, English, or marketing., • Experience with Constant Contact and/orWordPress., • Familiarity within an independent, PreK-12 school setting.
