Job Description Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist – 2nd Shift Job Description This 2nd shift CNC Lathe Machinist role focuses on performing full set-ups and operating CNC lathes in a clean, climate-controlled job shop environment. You will work with a wide range of stainless and exotic materials, hold extremely tight tolerances, and support both new and repeat production runs. The position involves troubleshooting machines, reading complex blueprints, and editing programs at the machine while contributing to a collaborative, team-oriented culture. Responsibilities • Perform full set-ups on CNC lathes in a job shop environment, including preparing tooling, fixtures, and offsets for each job., • Set up and operate CNC lathes to hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.0002 on a consistent basis., • Read, interpret, and work from complex blueprints, drawings, and operational layouts to ensure parts meet all specifications., • Troubleshoot CNC lathes and processes, identifying and resolving issues related to tooling, programming, and machine performance., • Edit and adjust CNC programs at the machine as needed to improve quality, efficiency, and repeatability., • Work with a variety of materials, including stainless steel, aluminum, Inconel, titanium, brass, and other exotic alloys., • Set up and run jobs on multiple types of CNC lathes, including machines with dual spindle and twin turret configurations such as Puma, Daewoo, and Doosan models., • Handle both short-run and long-run production, typically performing an average of one setup per shift, with the flexibility to complete more setups as required., • Manage complex setups that may require several hours of preparation for shorter production run times, maintaining accuracy and efficiency., • Machine parts ranging from small, fingernail-sized components to larger pieces, ensuring proper handling and precision at all scales., • Apply knowledge of multi-axis and live-tooling operations when available to complete complex machining tasks., • Verify part dimensions using appropriate measuring tools to confirm that all features meet print and tolerance requirements., • Understand and apply tooling requirements, including tool selection, pre-setting of tools, and optimization of cutting conditions for exotic metals., • Collaborate with team members in a cross-trained environment, assisting in other areas or on other machines as needed., • At least 3 years of CNC lathe set-up experience in a production or job shop environment., • A minimum of 2 years of machining experience in a medical or aerospace environment holding tolerances of +/- 0.0002., • Proven ability to set up and operate CNC lathes, including experience with twin-turret machines., • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, and operational layouts., • Ability to read and understand CNC programs and make necessary edits at the machine., • Strong understanding of tooling requirements to set up and operate CNC lathes, including pre-setting tools., • Experience machining small, intricate parts, including components as small as a fingernail., • Hands-on experience with Fanuc controls or similar CNC control systems., • Demonstrated ability to work with stainless steel and other exotic materials while maintaining tight tolerances., • Live-tooling or multi-axis CNC lathe experience preferred., • Experience working in aerospace or medical manufacturing environments is highly beneficial., • Knowledge of tooling applications and cutting strategies for exotic metals such as Inconel, titanium, and other high-performance alloys is a plus., • Familiarity with Puma, Daewoo, and Doosan CNC lathes, including dual spindle and twin turret configurations, is advantageous., • Experience in job shop machining, handling a wide variety of part numbers and run sizes from small batches to larger production runs., • Ability to contribute positively to a team-based, cross-training-focused environment. You will work with multiple CNC lathes, including Puma, Daewoo, and Doosan machines, some equipped with dual spindles, twin turrets, multi-axis capability, and live tooling, running parts in quantities ranging from small batches of around 100 pieces to larger runs up to approximately 5,000 pieces. The facility requires appropriate personal protective equipment and maintains a casual dress code with closed-toe shoes and no shorts, balancing comfort with safety and professionalism.
