Job Description Job Summary The Human Resources Generalist supports the people, culture, and compliance systems of Our Beginning School and its sister schools. This role is responsible for onboarding, employee relations, regulatory compliance, training oversight, and payroll and HR systems. This is a hands-on, part-time (16 hours/week) on-site position that works closely with the Founder, and school leadership to ensure the school operates in full compliance with employment law, DCYF licensing standards, and internal policies while sustaining a respectful, professional, and child-centered workplace culture. Our organization includes both Christian and non-sectarian schools. The Human Resources Generalist must be able to work effectively in both environments. Key Responsibilities 1. Recruitment & Onboarding • Manage interviews, and hiring coordination., • Coordinate and lead onboarding for all new employees., • Ensure all employment documentation, background checks, MERIT registration, and required trainings are completed before classroom placement., • Create and maintain onboarding systems and compliance checklists. 2. Employee Relations & Culture • Serve as a primary HR contact for staff questions, concerns, and guidance., • Design, implement, and manage employee recognition, appreciation, and morale programs., • Coach Directors and school leadership on how to support employees, manage performance, and apply HR policies consistently and fairly., • Support a professional, respectful, and accountable work environment., • Assist leadership with performance documentation, corrective action, and staff coaching processes., • Support internal communications and staff engagement initiatives. 3. Compliance & Risk Management • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and DCYF childcare licensing rules., • Maintain, secure, and audit all employee personnel files, including I-9s, contracts, evaluations, disciplinary records, and required compliance documentation., • Serve as the system of record for all personnel files and employment documentation., • Maintain confidential employee records in compliance with privacy and data-protection laws., • Work in partnership with HR partners and school leadership on audits, investigations, and regulatory matters., • Support leadership in tracking and responding to attendance violations, WAC violations, and policy infractions., • Revised Employee Handbook, • Ensure employment posters are current 4. Training & Professional Development • Track STARS hours, training completion, and license-required credentials., • Coordinate training logistics, PDDs, and certification renewals., • Track, document, and verify all staff trainings completed during Professional Development Days (PDDs), including STARS credits, DCYF requirements, and internal training records., • Maintain staff training records and compliance reporting. 5. Payroll & HR Systems • Assist with payroll processing, timekeeping, attendance tracking, and leave records., • Maintain accuracy within payroll systems and other HR systems., • Handles confidential, legally protected, and sensitive employee information., • Represents the school in HR matters with professionalism, discretion, and neutrality., • Must follow all privacy, ethics, and record-keeping laws., • Emotional intelligence and professional discretion, • Strong organization and follow-through, • Ability to work independently and within leadership teams, • Clear written and verbal communication, • Conflict resolution and problem-solving, • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (preferred)., • Minimum 3 years of HR experience, including employee relations, recruitment, and compliance., • Experience in education, childcare, or licensed environments strongly preferred., • Knowledge of DCYF licensing standards and employment law., • This is an on-site position; not remote., • Part-time - 16 hours per week- on-site, • Requires movement between schools, offices, classrooms, kitchens, and outdoor spaces., • Ability to sit, walk, climb stairs, use a computer, and occasionally assist with children., • Must be able to work in non-sectarian and Christian school environments.
