POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Development is a key ambassador and fundraiser for the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, responsible for advancing a culture of philanthropy and securing resources to support our mission. Focused on our Chesapeake and Northeast North Carolina locations, this role will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors while strengthening relationships between supporters, staff, and volunteers. The Director will manage annual giving campaigns, expand the pipeline for major and planned gifts, and play an integral role in preparing for a multi-million-dollar capital campaign. The Director of Development reports to the Chief Development Officer, and will work closely and collaboratively with Executive Directors and Board volunteers at the Center level. This position will also oversee two additional front line Directors of Development in conjunction with the Chief Development Officer. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Maintain a personal portfolio of annual and major gift prospects, as well as those donors and prospects that have the capacity to give at greater levels., • Serve as the primary relationship manager for their portfolio of prospects, developing and implementing a written donor strategy and relationship record of all interactions., • Communicate through face to face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings, and determined strategies; ensure that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship., • Develop solicitation strategies for donors / prospects in support of the organization's annual fund, planned giving, and growth campaigns; ensure strategies are compatible and maximize opportunities with other existing campaigns and appeals., • Support the fundraising efforts of the Executive Directors at the Center level and Chief Development Officer in securing new and renewed gifts., • Under the guidance of the Chief Development Officer, create and manage organizational budget; track and report on progress to goal to CDO, ED, and CFO including contracts, gifts, and pledges., • Ensure proper donor recognition and oversee accurate donor lists., • Work collaboratively to develop and maintain a detailed campaign plan and calendar in order to achieve campaign goals., • Work with the Chief Development Officer to set priorities; manage and adjust the work plan and calendar as needed., • Maintain up to date knowledge of major programmatic initiatives., • Manage the creation and production of all campaign materials, including (but not limited to) letters, emails, and prospectuses., • Work with the Financial Development Team to strategize and help execute cultivation events for major donors and prospects., • Working with the Chief Development Officer, develop a strategy for outreach to and stewardship of planned giving prospects and donors., • Provide analysis and recommendations based on reporting., • Provide detailed prospect reports for solicitors., • Other duties as assigned. Requirements: YMCA CAUSE DRIVEN LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES: • Philanthropy, • Communication & Influence, • Innovation, • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 3-5 years (direct or equivalent) experience managing high level donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $10,000 and above., • Ability to conceive, plan, and execute a major gifts program, including: annual giving, special events, and special projects/campaigns., • Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy and professionalism., • High level proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, and a working knowledge of search functions for donor research purposes., • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with a culturally diverse group of volunteers, co-workers and donors., • Project and team management skills and experience.Ability to effectively plan and set priorities., • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines., • Strong attention to detail, analytical, customer service, and presentation skills., • Ability to become proficient in all forms of YMCA technology systems including SGA Pulse, Ceridian/Dayforce, Collabornation, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and Google Email)., • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and to work in a fast paced office environment., • Is subject to frequent interruptions, • Will be in contact with all levels of staff, board members, guests, vendors, business associates, applicants, and visitors, • May be required to walk, stand, kneel and stoop, • Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking, • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time An offer of employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory results to meet minimum requirements of the position.
