Job Description Job description Position : Associate Teacher GSRP teacher GSRP Classroom 4 year REPORTS TO: Director JOB SUMMARY/ACCOUNTABILITY: The Assistant Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing learning environment for children and their parents. With support from the Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher helps plan and participates in classroom, playground, and field trip activities. These activities are designed to foster or enhance all areas of a child’s development. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: • CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, • One-year experience working with children and families preferred, • Personal qualifications: Emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities, • Knowledge and experience with the basic principles of child development, • Strong knowledge of GSRP Performance Standards and Michigan Childcare Licensing Regulations, • Effective in an environment of cultural diversity; comfortable in a collaborative, team based work setting, • Proficient in Microsoft Office, • Reliable transportation is required, • Follow chain of command for all conflict situations, • Create and maintain a clean safe, healthy, and developmentally focused learning environment, • Supervise and monitor children at all times and respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations as they occur, • Implement active supervision health and safety practices that ensure children are kept safe at all times set by grantee Job Purpose: Provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for children that encourage their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Ensure safety and supervision of children at all times by meeting the physical demands of the position. 36-38 hours a week Job Title: GSRP Associate Teacher Major Functions/Responsibilities: Communicate and interact frequently, affectionately, and respectfully. Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations. Be attentive, flexible and supportive of children, Assist teacher, caregivers and families. Practice positive discipline techniques at all times. · Meet and greet children and families · Set up equipment and assist in organizing materials for classroom instruction · Prepare Monthly reports COR (i.e volunteer services, newsletter, advisory meetings etc.) · Attend all city-wide in service activities and trainings (on-site and off -site) webinar and sessions related to your job description 30 hours training in school year. · Record anecdotal notes on students and enter into Online Cor; · Assist and accompany teacher with two Home Visits for the School Year · Complete Cor by due dates for review · Assist and accompany teacher with two Parent Teacher Conferences · Attend Advisory Board Meeting monthly · Maintain accurate files for all children in attendance · Assist with Lead Teacher lesson plans are written out daily · Twice a school year do a ASQ on your children with Lead teacher · Encourage children in educational activities, i.e singing, dancing and other reasonable physical activities, · Recruit parents for our program verbally, flyers, set-ups and etc. · Assist with classroom upkeep and management · Work with small groups of students or individuals, throughout daily schedule-under the teacher’s direction; · Prepare classroom teaching materials and assist in classroom instruction-under the teacher’s instruction · Plan Moving Forward Ceremony at the end of school year. · Attend all Field Trips · Assist with, and participate in Family style meal service with your children · Record the daily meal count at the point of service · Assist with children with their coats/boots, arrival and during dismissal; · Communicate and adhere to all Licensing Rules, ECS, Wayne Resa, Program Director and MDE · Assist with your Lead teacher making all phone calls to your parents for emergency, absent, and any issues or concerns for your children. · Assist with Lead Teacher with your classroom monthly Newsletter for your classroom or any update information . · Maintain a safe, sanitary and clean environment, assist in keeping the room clean at all times. Curriculum: High Scope curriculum will be implement that would include Math, Science, Writing, Reading, Small and Large Gross Motor skills using materials and activities on a daily basis. Demonstrate respect for diversity, independence and creativity. You will have to document children’s milestones in COR. Faculty/Parent Interactions: Acknowledge and respond to all parents and visitors in a friendly, courteous and professional matter. Invite input on child’s development and care. Communicate daily including conferences, events and meetings. Health/Safety/ Nutrition: Supervise children, following all safety and health rules and knowing the number of children in group at all times. Keep your area safe, organized and accessible to children. Teamwork: Establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation and respect. Participate in classroom and center responsibilities. Physical Demands: Follow State, Federal, MDE, Wayne RESA, ECS and Above and Beyond Learning Ctr. guidelines. Ensure children’s safety at all times. Demonstrate full range of motion. Need to be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Supervise and interact with children outdoors. Need to be able to respond immediately and appropriately to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies. Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements. inside and outside the building Education Requirements: . Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development or Preschool CDA. Requirements: FIA Clearance, I-Chat Clearance, TB test and Medical Clearance and maintain 30 hours of training yearly.
