Job Description Senior Accountant The Senior Accountant is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting and accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. To prepare monthly financial statements, financial reports for all sites, departmental, and programs to submit to the Chief Financial Officer for review and approval. Prepare reports that analyze activity within programs, across sites and the entire organization to ensure compliance with budgets. Maintain budget/actual activity reports, as required, to provide management accurate detailed information. The Senior Accountant will report to the Chief Financial Officer. This is a full-time, exempt position. Primary Responsibilities · Prepares monthly financial statements and financial reports for all sites, departments, and programs -- including various reports and monthly working papers according to GAAP requirements. Reviews with the goal of ensuring accuracy. All reports are reviewed and approved by the Chief Financial Officer. · Assists in preparation of grants, supports budget, forecasting, and regular reporting activities for those Grants. · Responsible for accurate reflection of accounts in the general ledger. Prepares monthly and year end journal entries from variety of sources to reflect all revenues and expenses in a timely manner. · Responsible for compiling the supporting documentation to support any federal draw downs based on grant requirements. Ensures the general ledger is set up to capture revenue and expense for all grants. · Assists Chief Financial Officer in development and implementation of new procedures to enhance the workflow of the department and maintain accounting systems. · Work with the Auditors to ensure a clean and timely year end, including the preparation of pre-audit paperwork and schedules. · Works with Administrative Assistant, Accounting staff, and Chief Financial Officer on managing receipts procedure. Monitors daily receipt reports, analysis of any trends or changes. · Responds to inquiries from the CFO and other department managers regarding special reporting requests. · Reviews and prepares monthly Grant and Contract invoices for services rendered according to the terms of the agreements. · Assists in maintaining the Chart of Accounts. · Provide training to new and existing staff as needed. Senior Accountant Page 2. · Support CFO with special projects, workflow process improvements, internal control implementation and cost analysis for various programs · Assists in preparing the annual budget, including budgets for Grant application. Monitors and performs analysis on organizational and departmental budgets monthly. Develops interim financial forecasts. Periodic Duties: · Participates and attends various department/agency meetings, committees and external workshops relative to job duties as requested. · Participates in problem solving groups. · Provide assistance as designated by executive leadership to support the overall goals of NCHA · Compliance with NCHA programs overall · Participation in ongoing performance improvement activities · Performs other duties as assigned Education or Formal Training Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; a minimum 5 years of financial accounting experience and training (or equivalent combination of education and experience); Health care and grant experience preferred.
