Overview We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and data-driven Product Specialist to own the accuracy, presentation, performance, and commercial viability of our product assortment across our e-commerce channels. This role sits at the intersection of product, e-commerce, creative, sourcing, and finance, with responsibility for ensuring products are properly costed, accurately presented, fully merchandised, compliant for import, and delivered on time. The ideal candidate blends analytical rigor, operational discipline, strong written communication, and cross-functional collaboration. Key Responsibilities Product & E-commerce Management (Primary) • Create, maintain, and update product listings in Shopify, including titles, descriptions, imagery, pricing, SEO fields, and metadata , ensuring accuracy at launch and throughout the product lifecycle, • Ensure product data accuracy and consistency across e-commerce platforms and internal systems, with accountability for resolving discrepancies, • Manage product lifecycle updates including launches, restocks, pre-sales, archives, sell-outs, and discontinuations, • Coordinate product setup timelines to support collection launches, promotions, pop-ups, and special releases Product Descriptions & Copywriting • Write, edit, and maintain product descriptions for all products and variants, • Ensure copy is accurate, conversion-focused, SEO-informed, and aligned with brand voice, • Translate product design, materials, and use cases into clear, customer facing language that supports conversion, • Update product copy as products evolves (new variants, pricing updates, production changes), • QA product copy prior to launches, promotions, and campaigns Merchandising, Upsells & Cross-Sell Strategy • Manage and optimize product upsells, cross-sells, and complementary product recommendations, • Identify natural product pairings and bundles to improve AOV and customer experience, • Use product performance, inventory, and margin data to inform recommendation strategies, • Partner with creative, marketing, and fulfillment departments to ensure accurate execution Product Content & Asset Management • Own and maintain a product content and asset tracker for all SKUs and variants, • Track which images, videos, and assets exist (and do not exist) for each product and variant, • Flag missing, outdated, or underperforming assets and communicate needs to the Creative team, • Ensure correct assets are assigned to the correct variants across all channels, • QA product imagery and content prior to launches and promotions Pricing, Promotions & Margin Alignment • Analyze product performance, inventory levels, and sell-through to recommend promotional timing and item selection, • Suggest promotional strategy development by providing data driven insights on inventory and margin impact, • Execute and QA promotional pricing to ensure accuracy across channels, • Partner with Creative and Product Development to ensure items approved for production meet established margin requirements, • Review product costing and pricing assumptions; flag margin risks and propose adjustments Vendor Production & Timeline Management • Own and manage vendor production timelines from purchase order issuance through factory completion, • Track production milestones, sample approvals, and readiness-to-ship dates, • Proactively communicate production status, delays, and risks to internal teams, • Work with vendors to resolve timeline issues and support launch adjustments, • Maintain production timeline trackers to support forecasting and presales Customs Entry & Import Documentation • Oversee customs entry documentation for inbound product shipments, • Ensure accuracy of commercial invoices, packing lists, HTS codes, country of origin, and declared values, • Coordinate with freight forwarders and customs brokers to ensure timely clearance, • Maintain organized records for customs entries and compliance documentation Vendor Sourcing, Vetting & Expansion • Expand the vendor and manufacturer network by sourcing, vetting, and evaluating new vendors, • Conduct comparative analysis on pricing, lead times, MOQs, quality, and reliability, • Partner with Creative and Product Development to assess vendor capabilities against design, quality, and margin needs, • Maintain vendor comparison tools and approved vendor lists Analytics, Reporting & Excel Ownership • Maintain product, pricing, vendor, and timeline data using Excel, • Build and manage Pivot Tables and recurring reports to track:, • Product performance and sell-through, • Inventory health and aging, • Margin performance, • Promotional effectiveness, • Vendor lead times and production timelines, • Translate data into actionable insights for leadership and cross-functional teams Secondary Channel Support (TikTok Shop, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.) • Support product setup, accuracy, and QA for listings as an additional sales channel, • Ensure pricing, inventory, imagery, and descriptions align with Shopify, • QA products prior to live shopping events or creator activations, • Monitor for listing issues and escalate as needed Cross-Functional Collaboration & Documentation • Serve as the bridge between Product, Creative, Ecommerce, Finance, Fulfillment, and Logistics, • Provide accurate product, vendor, and timeline data to support launches, campaigns, and CX inquiries, • Maintain documentation for product setup standards, pricing logic, vendor vetting, production tracking, and compliance Qualifications & Skills • 2+ years of ecommerce, product operations, or merchandising experience, ideally within a Shopify environment, • Experience managing vendor production timelines and working with international manufacturers, • Location Requirement: This is a Chicago-based role.
