Job Description The Director of Sales & Preconstruction plays a vital role in transforming business development efforts into successful project opportunities. This position focuses on identifying, pursuing, and advancing strategic projects where precast concrete can provide measurable advantages in schedule, quality, safety, and risk reduction. Working closely with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and general contractors, the Director of Preconstruction engages early in the design and planning process to develop technical solutions and position precast concrete as the preferred structural and architectural building system. Success in this role requires the ability to build and maintain strong industry relationships while guiding projects through the sales & preconstruction process. The Director of Sales & Preconstruction collaborates with internal estimating, engineering, project management, and operations teams to develop project-specific scopes, budgets, schedules, proposals, and contracts (LOI and NTP) that align customer objectives with manufacturing capabilities. This individual is responsible for promoting collaborative delivery methods, including design-assist and design-build approaches, while ensuring project opportunities are aligned with plant capacity, production capabilities, and strategic market objectives. Through proactive market engagement, technical expertise, and a customer-focused approach, the Director of Sales & Preconstruction helps drive sustainable growth and reinforces reputation as a trusted provider of engineered concrete solutions. The Director of Sales & Preconstruction provides oversight and direction for our Business Development Associate with regards to specific industry research and investigation to identify potential projects well in advance of public knowledge. JOB DESCRIPTION Market Development & Client Engagement · Engage owners, developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and key stakeholders early in the project lifecycle to position precast concrete as the preferred structural and architectural solution. · Develop and maintain relationships with key decision-makers throughout the design and construction community to enhance visibility, reputation, and market presence. · Establish and strengthen strategic relationships with national contractors, developers, repeat-owner clients, and key market influencers to create long-term growth opportunities and recurring business. · Represent at industry events, trade organizations, professional associations, and educational programs to promote the benefits of precast concrete construction. · Support the development of educational presentations, continuing education programs, technical resources, and industry outreach initiatives that advance awareness of precast concrete solutions. · Monitor market trends, construction activity, competitive positioning, customer needs, and emerging opportunities to support strategic business planning and market expansion. · Collaborate with Corporate Marketing to implement the local subsidiary’s annual marketing plan and campaign alignment. Project Pursuit & Preconstruction Leadership · Lead the preconstruction strategy and pursuit of strategic project opportunities within target market sectors, including Data Centers, Industrial, Multifamily, Parking Structures, K-12, Transportation, and Building Enclosure Systems. · Develop project-specific pursuit strategies that align customer objectives with manufacturing capabilities, installation resources, and long-term business objectives. · Direct the development of conceptual budgets, preliminary schedules, scope definitions, value-engineering alternatives, and technical proposals. · Promote collaborative project delivery methods, including Design-Assist, Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, CM/GC, and other integrated project delivery approaches. · Serve as the primary customer advocate during the preconstruction phase while balancing project requirements, risk management, profitability, and operational execution. · Evaluate project opportunities for strategic fit, production capacity, schedule constraints, profitability, risk exposure, and resource requirements. · Facilitate internal project review meetings and establish pursuit priorities based on market conditions, backlog requirements, production loading, and plant utilization objectives. Operational Alignment & Execution · Collaborate with estimating, engineering, operations, transportation, and project management teams to develop complete, executable, and competitive project solutions. · Align project pursuits with manufacturing capacity, engineering resources, transportation logistics, and erection capabilities to support balanced growth and operational efficiency across the organization. · Support the development and implementation of standardized design solutions, repeatable project approaches, and best practices that improve efficiency, reduce project risk, and enhance overall project execution. · Maintain project pipeline forecasts, opportunity tracking systems, market intelligence databases, and preconstruction performance metrics to support informed business decisions. · Provide executive leadership with regular reporting regarding project pursuits, market conditions, win/loss analysis, backlog development, capacity planning, and strategic growth initiatives. Strategic Growth & Industry Leadership · Identify opportunities for new products, services, market sectors, and construction applications that align with strategic growth initiatives. · Mentor and support business development, estimating, engineering, and project management personnel while fostering collaboration and accountability across all functional departments. · Continuously expand technical expertise in precast concrete systems, construction delivery methods, market trends, and emerging technologies to maintain industry leadership and provide value-driven solutions to customers. · Support corporate strategic planning efforts through market intelligence, customer feedback, competitive analysis, and long-range opportunity forecasting. · Perform other duties as assigned in support of strategic objectives and continued growth.
