Role responsibilities We are seeking a Health and Safety Officer to join our Compliance – HSE and Facilities team. Reporting to the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager, the post holder will play a key role in promoting and maintaining a safe, compliant and proactive working environment across the business. The role is responsible for implementing, monitoring and continuously improving health and safety policies, procedures and initiatives, ensuring alignment with UK legislation, industry standards and rail-specific requirements. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you will support the development of a positive safety culture where employees are engaged, informed and empowered to manage risks effectively. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Safety and Ethics – Support the Pullman Rail SHEQ strategy, ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental and quality standards while driving continuous improvement., • Culture and Engagement – Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging employees at all levels and encouraging participation in safety initiatives., • Risk Management – Plan and facilitate risk assessments and safe systems of work, ensuring hazards are identified, evaluated and controlled effectively., • Monitoring and Compliance – Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance with legal requirements, internal standards and rail industry regulations., • Incident Investigation – Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions., • Training and Support – Deliver health and safety training, inductions and toolbox talks, providing practical guidance to managers and employees., • Emergency Preparedness – Support the development and testing of emergency procedures, including evacuation plans and drills., • Stakeholder Engagement – Act as a key point of contact for health and safety matters, liaising with internal teams, auditors, regulators and clients., • Performance and Improvement – Analyse safety data, maintain hazard registers and contribute to the Health & Safety annual plan, driving continuous improvement initiatives., • Collaboration – Work closely with cross-functional teams to monitor performance, produce reports and embed best practices across the organisation. Who we’re looking for • A candidate with proven experience in a health and safety role within an engineering, manufacturing or heavy industrial environment., • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent Level 3 qualification) – essential., • Working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification – desirable., • Membership of IOSH or similar professional body – desirable., • Excellent knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its practical application., • Experience in risk assessments, audits, inspections and incident investigations., • Ability to deliver engaging training and influence positive safety behaviours., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships., • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capability, with a focus on continuous improvement., • Proficient in health and safety systems and standard IT tools., • A proactive, self-motivated approach with a commitment to professional development. Welsh Language Skills The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
