Support worker Carer position (day shifts and waking night shift)
    £15–£17 hourly
    Full-time
    London

Overview We are hiring for a Waking night and day shift support worker / carer to join the lovely team around a 19 year young man who has epilepsy and PMLD, is non verbal and has additional health needs. He lives at home with his family and dog. We will need someone to take on both daytime hours as well as cover regular 2 waking night shifts per week. This is full time position (37.5 hours or more per week) for someone who has a strong interest in working with disabled and autistic people. You would ideally need some experience but the correct applicant we are also happy to train. Please let us know in your own words why you are interested or what experience you have. We need to cover the following waking nights: Sunday and Monday or Thursday and Friday. We would expect the new support worker also to take on occasional extra shifts when colleagues are away. The night supports are strictly waking nights. This is quite an active position - you would need to be really fit and strong and ideally not be too petite either as you would be working with a still growing teenager with a movement disorder. We would prefer someone who can work with a UTR number on a self-employed basis. But if you needed a PAYE because of Visa requirements we can connect you to a care agency who will employ the correct candidate for us. This is not a second job possibility (we would like to find someone who takes on this position as their only job). Training is mostly 2 months of shadowing. Probation is a minimum of 6 months. After probation the rate increases to £17 with a UTR number (PAYE is £15 through the agency). Starting Date: for training Asap. Availability needed also for bank holidays (paid at double rate). Importantly we need to find someone who can also support during some of the Christmas period and Easter. Ideally you live in North London or can easily commute. You would often work together with other team members to engage the young person in every day activities and to take him out into the community. But you would also need to often take on sole charge after training. About the young person He is a very friendly and active autistic young man / teenager. He is non verbal. He can walk short distances but only with a lot of support, otherwise he is in a wheelchair. He likes to go to the park, shopping, cafe and sometimes some planned activities all with a lot of support. He likes the swimming pool and special needs bike rides. His communication is mainly through pictures of reference and is taught with ABA principles. We will train you in behaviour therapy and would expect you to follow our training. There are regular team meetings and you would attend those meetings. He sometimes is also tired and unwell after a seizure or other illness and will then just need care and nurturing and patience. He also sometimes has hospital stays which requires a lot of patience. He needs a lot of physical support. He lives with his family and also a dog. About you You would need to be able to appreciate a person who has profound autism and treat him with dignity and kindness. You would be someone who has interest in special needs, psychology and perhaps nursing. You would perhaps have studied a related field or are planning to study a related field. This position is very different from working in a care home. You would be assisting him with everyday skills and activities as well as feeding, bathing and toileting. If you have experience with intermittent catheterisation, Peresteen as well as PEG feeding then that is an advantage but we can easily also train those skills too. (Please research all terms you are unsure about before you apply). When working a waking overnight shift you will need to make sure that he is safe and alert parents in case of a seizure. Before and after a waking night you need to be able to rest. During the day you need to engage hime both at home and in the community. This position also involves keeping his environment generally tidy and clean and help with his laundry. You should be responsible, cheerful, honest and very reliable, physically strong and healthy as he needs a lot of support. You will be trained by members of the team and the education consultant and be taught the principles of ABA - a behaviour therapy. You would need to be flexible and sometime cover for other people in the team if they are away on holidays or ill. You should • Be able to commit for minimum a year., • Invoice at the end of every month, • Able to work legally in the UK, • Only non smokers and non vapers apply., • Only people who are dog friendly apply., • Be able to speak English, • Be strong and fit, • Be able to swim and be in the water with the young person, • Be able to ride a bike, • Be based in London - ideally north London., • Apply with a cover letter (that explains your interest in this particular position and let us know your experience),, • send a recent CV with dates of education and work experience,, • lateron we need your enhanced DBS and relevant references Please be aware that we can not offer sponsorship. We are based in Islington. Please reply explaining why you are interested (and please read full advertisement before and please write in your own words :). We look forward to hearing from you.

At Franco Manca, great pizza starts with great people. For over 15 years we've been making slow-risen sourdough pizza the way it should be: simple ingredients, proper craft and restaurants that feel part of their neighbourhood. We're not a People team sitting far away from the action. We're close to our restaurants, our managers and our teams, and this role is right at the heart of that. Why Franco Manca? We're proud of where we've come from and excited about where we're going. This is an opportunity to join a business with real heritage that's investing in its people, its restaurants and its future. You'll have the chance to influence how we support our teams, work closely with senior leaders and make a genuine impact across the business. You'll also have space to keep growing yourself, with opportunities to get involved in people projects, leadership development, coaching and wider business initiatives as we continue to evolve. We're looking for a People Partner to work alongside our Operations Managers, helping our restaurant teams thrive. You'll build trusted relationships, coach leaders, support managers through the moments that matter and help create an environment where people can do their best work. This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety and influence. One day you could be supporting a manager through a complex people matter, the next you'll be using insight to spot trends, shaping practical people plans or helping us develop future leaders. If you enjoy working closely with people, balancing commercial thinking with empathy and making a real difference across a multi-site business, we'd love to hear from you. You'll love this role if · You like being close to the business and out with managers, not hidden behind a desk. · You enjoy coaching leaders, solving problems practically and seeing the difference your work makes. · You want exposure to senior leaders, people strategy and projects that shape how our teams grow. What you'll be doing • Partner with Managers to support our restaurants and people., • Coach and develop managers to build confident, capable teams. · Lead a wide range of employee relations cases with confidence, fairness, consistency and sound judgement. • Use people insight and data to spot trends and improve the employee experience. · Bring strong attention to detail to employee relations, people processes, documentation and follow-up, making sure advice is accurate, consistent and well managed. • Support talent development, succession planning and leadership capability., • Help shape practical people initiatives that support our restaurants today and as we continue to grow., • Work closely with the wider People team to keep things simple, consistent and people focused. We're looking for someone who • Has HR Business Partner or Senior HR Advisor experience in hospitality, retail or another fast-paced customer facing multi-site business. · Has strong employee relations knowledge, including confidence managing complex cases and a solid understanding of UK employment law. · Is CIPD qualified or working towards qualification; however, practical, commercial HR experience and strong judgement are just as important. • Builds trust quickly and enjoys coaching and supporting managers., • Brings a practical, solutions-focused approach. · Has excellent attention to detail and takes pride in getting the important things right, especially when handling sensitive people matters. • Understands that every conversation matters., • Loves working with people as much as processes., • Wants to help create workplaces where everyone feels welcome and supported. Our values in this role · Welcome Everybody: You create a safe, inclusive and respectful environment where managers and teams feel listened to, supported and treated fairly. · Love Your Food: You care about the details that make Franco Manca special and help managers build teams who are proud of the food, service and experience they deliver. · Keep It Moving: You work with pace, clarity and common sense, helping managers resolve people matters quickly, fairly and practically. · Put On a Great Show: You understand that great people experiences lead to great restaurant experiences, and you help managers create teams who deliver warm, genuine hospitality every day. What you'll get · Up to £60,000 per year · Annual discretionary bonus scheme · 25 days holiday plus bank holidays · Salary sacrifice schemes, including pension, Cycle to Work and EV car scheme · Season ticket loan · Medicash health cash plan, including dental, glasses, physiotherapy and more · 24/7 virtual GP access, confidential counselling and advice on wellbeing, money, legal and personal matters · Free pizzas and soft drinks on every shift, plus free sourdough bread to cook at home · 50% staff discount when dining in any Franco Manca restaurant · Cashback, online discounts, discounted shopping vouchers, gym and fitness discounts, cinema tickets, family days out and exclusive hospitality perks · Annual social events, incentives and competitions · Up to £500 employee referral scheme, subject to terms and conditions · Development opportunities to support your growth and progression If this sounds like the kind of People Partner role where you could do your best work, we'd love to hear from you.
