CHIMES² — the Centre for Heterogeneous Integrated MicroElectronic and Semiconductor Systems — is one of the UK’s national semiconductor research-translation programmes, a £16.3M Innovation and Knowledge Centre led by the University of Sheffield. We are appointing a Research and Innovation Fellow in Systems Architecture and Design to its CTO Office. This is not a conventional postdoctoral research post. Its core is landscape analysis and roadmap intelligence — reading the international state of the art in system architecture, chiplet partitioning and front-end design, identifying the gaps the UK must close, and turning that into the knowledge infrastructure a national programme runs on. A research theme of your own is developed alongside that work, not instead of it. This post focuses on the ‘logical’ layer of heterogeneous integration — partitioning a system into functional chiplets and dies, specifying cross-die interfaces, and establishing the system-level architecture that determines what is integrated, how it is interconnected, and what performance, power and security properties the assembled system must deliver. Qualifications & Experience: • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience., • Minimum of 7 years' experience in 2D and 3D CAD required (Autodesk Inventor an advantage but not essential) within an OEM structured engineering department, • Metallurgy, material science, heat treatment; specific knowledge in cutting, welding, heat treatment and machining, • Mechanical calculations (NX, MathCAD, Microsoft Excel), • Free reading of design/technical documentation, • To operate freely with international documentation: technical books, standards, catalogues etc, • (AutoCAD, Inventor), • Work in international groups with ability to communicate both verbally and written and work within a worldwide team environment., • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability looking at overall results and finer details., • Ability to prioritise workload, on-time delivery and deliver on-time results to Company standards whilst working on multiple projects., • Experience undertaking structured writing in the form of technical reports., • Available for regular business travel (worldwide), • Basic product/plant understanding and know-how (what pieces go where and how to find reference information). This is a client-facing opportunity for an experienced IT procurement professional who wants to combine deep category expertise with consulting and transformation delivery. You will work with major organisations on complex commercial, sourcing and supplier initiatives, helping clients identify opportunities and then taking an active role in delivering measurable outcomes. This is very much a hands-on consulting role. You will be expected to take ownership, lead workstreams and teams, engage senior stakeholders and apply your procurement expertise to solve complex commercial challenges. You will work across a range of client engagements focused on IT procurement, category strategy, strategic sourcing and supplier management. Your responsibilities will include: • Leading and managing teams across global client engagements., • Developing and executing IT procurement and category strategies., • Leading complex sourcing and commercial initiatives from opportunity identification through to implementation., • Conducting supplier research, market analysis and commercial assessments., • Building robust fact bases and translating complex data into clear, actionable insights., • Identifying opportunities to improve value, supplier performance and commercial outcomes., • Tracking benefits and ensuring delivery remains aligned with agreed milestones and objectives., • Working closely with client stakeholders to understand requirements, challenge thinking and align priorities., • Leading and contributing to workshops, working sessions and senior stakeholder discussions., • Communicating recommendations and commercial insights clearly to both client and internal teams., • Supporting the development of high-performing teams and contributing to the continued growth of the wider consulting practice. We are looking for an experienced procurement professional with significant expertise across global IT and technology categories. You will ideally bring: • 8+ years' experience within IT procurement, strategic sourcing or category management., • Strong experience operating across global IT procurement categories., • Deep subject-matter expertise in Enterprise Software, IT Services and/or Cloud & Hosting., • Experience managing or influencing significant technology spend portfolios, ideally in excess of $50m annually., • Strong indirect procurement knowledge and experience delivering complex sourcing and category initiatives., • Previous consulting experience, or experience working closely with consulting organisations, would be highly advantageous, although strong relevant industry experience will also be considered., • Experience leading teams and managing delivery across multiple geographies., • Strong commercial analysis and Excel capabilities, with the ability to turn data into meaningful business insights., • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills., • The confidence to operate effectively in complex, fast-moving client environments.
