Job Description Position is Seasonal at 10.5 months (lay off period in the summer) Job Goal: The Coach Mentor is assigned to Head Start and Early Head Start Education and Home Based Staff to observe, model, coach, and mentor on a regular basis; providing information to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and principles. The Coach Mentor meets and provides feedback for facilitated discussion on common problems teachers and home visitors are facing in order to design appropriate intervention strategies. The Coach Mentor supports the agency developed School Readiness Framework and works with Head Start and Early Head Start Education and Home Based staff to support them in effectively developing their learning environment using curriculum and planning educational experiences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Assist in the mentoring and training of education staff to support school readiness measures and program quality., • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to teachers improving teacher child interactions and curriculum implementation that supports positive child outcomes towards school readiness., • Provide technical support and assistance to classroom teachers as assigned, including direct coaching and mentoring of education staff to improve instructional practices and classroom quality., • Provide regular classroom observations using the specified evidence based tools such as CLASS™, Creative Curriculum Fidelity Tool, etc., • Assist with the planning and monitoring of education component services., • Provide reflective coaching and mentoring to the teachers to ensure the implementation of the education program reflects the UMHS philosophy and curriculum; promote and support the professional development of the education staff., • Ensure teacher child interactions and instruction are responsive, intentional, and developmentally appropriate to ensure children are provided socially supportive, organized, and meaningful interactions that support their development (i.e., social emotional, physical, cognitive, and language) and learning (i.e., literacy, math, science, technology, social studies, and the arts)., • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring and support to classroom staff around the Conscious Discipline and the Pyramid model., • Participate in the development of program policies, service delivery plans, and ongoing monitoring of program quality., • Ensure all mandates of Head Start Performance Standards, and state and local licensing are met., • Attend workshops, conferences, and other necessary trainings to support component goals, • Stay current on research based practices according to Head Start, Oregon’s Early Learning and Kindergarten Guidelines, and best practice guidance/recommendations as identified through NHSA, NAEYC, The Research Institute, and the Department of Early Learning and Care., • Develop workshops on best practices in Early Childhood Care and Education and submitting to ORO for approval., • Assist in Staff Development by identifying priority areas of education instruction. Assist the Content Directors in planning and delivering training., • Act as a resource to program staff needing additional resources and supports., • Participate as a member of agency committees as assigned, • Assist in assessing training needs by analyzing education staff’s professional development needs, in keeping with current trends and by gaining input from staff regarding training needs and interests, • Act as a content specialist in early childhood curriculum, able to advise staff, parents, or volunteers, • Collaborate with Component Directors and Education Staff to assess data relative to staff effectiveness, • Utilize a variety of methods of communication for supporting coaching needs across a vast geographic region, • Coaching:, • Stay current with research based (PBC) coaching practices to align with Head Start recommendations, • Earn and maintain coaching credential/certificate, • Act as a content specialist in early childhood best practice, • Participate in staff meetings, conferences, training sessions, and workshops as assigned, • Demonstrate familiarity with employment policies, performance standards, work plan, and objectives of the Agency, • Maintain congenial and respectful relations with staff, children, families and community, • Keep current and accurate records and file reports on time, • Maintain confidentiality in regard to staff and family information, • Maintain objectives and professional standards, • Improve self‐skills and education, • Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in Child Abuse and Neglect Policy, • Be present at work to provide consistency of services, • Be a contributory team member in a positive/productive manner, • Demonstrate commitment to mission, values, and policies in the performance of daily duties, • Five or more years of experience in an early childhood program., • Experience supporting families and understand how to engage them in program services, • Knowledge of inclusive practices, • Knowledge of how to best support the early learning workforce in all settings, • Implement effective techniques for adult learning, • Maintain Oregon Registry Master Trainer Certification, • Experience of early learning quality assessment tools, including:, • Classroom Assessment Scoring Scale (CLASS™) Observer Certification or ability to obtain CLASS™ Observer Certification within 6 months of hire., • Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) (specifically, Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale 3 and Family, • Child Care Environments Rating Scale Program Assessment Scale (PAS), • Knowledge of child assessment and screening tools, including:, • Teaching Strategies Gold, • Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool, • Ages and Stages Questionnaires, • Current CPR and First Aid cards, • Ability to keep accurate records, • Ability to develop, coordinate and conduct training sessions, • Knowledge of research based practices regarding child and family services, • Supervisory experience (preferred), • Head Start experience (preferred), • Community service experience (preferred), • Multi cultural experience (preferred), • Administrative background (preferred) The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: • Observe, compare, and monitor behaviors, records and data to determine compliance with prescribed standards, • Comprehend, analyze, and make inferences and references from written material, • Lift and move heavy and/or bulky objects up to 50 lbs., • Sit for long periods of time with keyboard and do data entry at a computer., • Occasionally required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms., • Frequently required to drive, walk and climb stairs in the office and in a variety of community based and home settings., • Occasional filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending as necessary; Work Environment/Conditions: • The work environment includes indoor office environments or comparable spaces and community spaces, with some exposure to outdoor weather when traveling between sites. The noise level varies by sites and meetings. Apply safe practices in the performance of duties • Reporting of unsafe or hazardous working conditions and/or any injury immediately, • Complying with Agency safety standards, • Participate in emergency drills, • Current enrollment in the Child Care Licensing Division’s Central Background Registry, • Current physical examination, drug screen, and TB screen documentation prior to hire, • Ability to drive a private or Agency vehicle; must possess a valid driver's license and personal automobile or provide a plan that will allow fulfillment of position requirements.
