Job Description Assistant Property Manager – Housing Programs We are a New York City–based real estate company specializing in affordable housing and government-assisted housing programs, including NYCHA, HPD, and CityFHEPS. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Property Manager to help oversee the daily operations of our residential portfolio. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of government housing programs, lease administration, and tenant relations, and is ready to take on a leadership role in ensuring our properties remain compliant, well-maintained, and fully occupied. In this role, you will assist the Property Manager in overseeing all aspects of property operations, including leasing, tenant relations, rent collection, and regulatory compliance across NYCHA, HPD, and CityFHEPS programs. You will manage the lease-up process from application intake through move-in, ensuring all voucher documentation, income verifications, and program paperwork are completed accurately and submitted on time. You will coordinate and follow up on housing inspections, address violations, and work closely with maintenance staff and vendors to ensure timely repairs and unit turnovers. You will serve as a key liaison between tenants, government agencies, case workers, and ownership, handling escalated concerns and resolving issues promptly. Additional responsibilities include monitoring rent rolls, tracking subsidy payments, preparing vacancy reports, assisting with annual recertifications, enforcing lease terms, and supporting eviction proceedings when necessary. You will also help train and supervise administrative staff to ensure office procedures align with program guidelines and company standards. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 3 years of experience in property management, with direct involvement in NYCHA, HPD, or CityFHEPS housing programs. A thorough understanding of residential lease agreements, rent stabilization laws, and tenant protection regulations in New York City is required. Strong leadership and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple properties and competing priorities. Proficiency in property management software such as Yardi, RentManager, or AppFolio, as well as Microsoft Office Suite, is expected. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor when interacting with tenants and agency representatives are a must. A high school diploma or GED is required, and a Bachelor's degree in real estate, business administration, or a related field is preferred. A New York State real estate license is a plus. Bilingual English/Spanish is highly preferred.
