The Region 1 Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of operations concerning Region 1, including plant operations, quality control measures, inventory control, human resource issues, environmental protocols, and safety protocols. This includes managing a team of direct reports, including each Plant Manager, the Dispatch Manager, and Area Production Managers. This position is under the direct supervision of the Chief Operations Officer. General • Manages Production Team personnel by setting direction and priorities, enforcing polices, and encouraging growth on a daily basis., • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments to achieve company goals., • Communicates with COO regularly regarding all aspects related to the Production Department., • Provides COO with professional and accurate reports in a timely manner., • Assist each plant on any type of emergency or accident (plant break down, truck leaning/turned over, & etc.)., • Collaborate with Safety personnel during all accident investigations., • Work “late nights” and “Saturdays” when assigned., • Prepare and lead plant huddles, lunch and learns, and presentations at the annual meeting as directed., • Determine approval or denial of all reimbursements for Region 1 production personnel., • Maintain and manage relationships with representation from our vendor companies. Production • Supports the financial performance of the Company by managing hours, overtime, and yards per driver hour., • Analyzes production performance versus Key Performance Indicators to meet or exceed established goals., • Preplan each day where the most sensitive site or plant will be the following morning for yardage, QA sensitive, or personnel issues and make sure all parties are aware of their responsibilities., • Prepare and coordinate large pours or technical pours. Logistics and quality assurance are included. Number of trucks, timing, personnel needed at the plant and at the site from QA and sales., • Promote production on Saturdays. Provide Blue/Tan Saturday team calendar in Q4 of the prior year., • Ensures the management and maintenance of optimal levels of inventories so that facilities do not see work stoppage., • Monitor mixer driver productivity (i.e.: early clock ins, wash down times on the yard and on the job, end of day clock-out times, etc.)., • Coordinate with and assist dispatch on a daily basis., • Make routine observations of equipment, personnel, yard, and batch house., • Assist plant manager in assessing any malfunctions or breakdowns at the plant and help coordinate and prioritize issues for the Asset Department., • Transport or provide transportation to drivers to available equipment, IE: spare trucks., • Monitor and ensure proper jobsite washout procedures are adhered to., • Oversee the order entry process and monitor for accuracy and professionalism., • Perform an annual cdl check of all mixer drivers. Human Resources • Works with COO, HR, and other co-workers to hire, train, onboard, review, coach, engage, discipline, and off board employees under your supervision., • Upskill and mentor subordinates accomplishing company goals toward internal promotions., • Responsible for any and all personnel issues &/or write-ups associated with the subordinate production personnel., • Performs performance evaluations on direct reports at least twice per year. Review MBO’s of direct reports and hourly employee bonus’ quarterly., • With the assistance of your plant managers, grade each mixer operator for his annual evaluations., • Coordinate all training of new mixer operators and approve them as ready to deliver concrete in a safe and efficient manner., • Investigate and resolve employee concerns, involving appropriate departments as needed., • Assist HR in the creation and management of Production employee files to verify that they are current and company policies are being followed., • Ensure our compliance with FMSCA including drug and alcohol testing while maintaining the database., • Monitor and manage the certifications of plants and people through outside parties such as ACI or NRMCA., • Meet with each plant manager at least once per month to discuss issues and performance., • Interact with each driver periodically., • Consistently monitor and enforce the attendance policy, making exceptions where appropriate., • Monitor the performance, training, and appropriate usage of back up plant managers, • Verify/Finalize weekly payroll hours (with the assistance of the accounting department) including PTO used, holiday pay applied, assured time applied, etc. Quality Control • Monitor each plant’s batching computer is in tolerance with actual inventories., • Oversee that each plant has a scale check performed at least twice per year., • Assure associated products for special jobs are in place at the plant and the correct dosage rate is followed., • Work QA at the job or plant as needed., • Attend pre-pour meetings as needed to plan successful positive customer service., • Monitor, assist, or train if necessary daily air checks for all plants., • Monitor, assist, or train if necessary daily “burn off” for moisture., • Monitor, assist, or train slump control and mix procedures. Customer Service • Responsible for meeting or exceeding customers’ expectations for service on a daily basis in a professional and ethical manner., • Heavily involved in the customer experience including job site visits., • Monitor customer service skills of the mixer operators., • Monitor and manage the customer service skills of dispatch and logistics personnel., • Provide assistance for numerous jobs whether at the plant or on the job site. Be available to numerous general contractors, finishers, & testing labs. Environmental Conditions: • Work is performed in all environmental, temperature, and weather conditions. Work day length varies, depending on assignments and weather. Preferred Qualifications: • Knowledge of concrete plant operations.
