Job overviewTo have completed formal training and competency framework for Advanced Practice in Breast Imaging. To undertake a technical role traditionally carried out by Radiologists such as:Ultrasound or X-ray guided interventional proceduresAdvanced client communication and clinical breast examination (non-essential)Image interpretation while working in accordance with local and national protocolsTo promote and deliver a high-quality imaging service for the screening population and for symptomatic referrals. Promote the clinical governance agenda of the Breast Unit. Promote the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a nationally recognised centre of excellence in Breast Imaging.Main duties of the jobTo carry out examinations to agreed guidelines and standards demonstrating clinical leadership, advanced clinical competence and decision-making skills.To provide independent descriptive written reports according to departmental guidelines with minimal assistance from consultants and ensure accurate data input using the appropriate computer system(s) of Epic and NBSS.To communicate complex/distressing findings with patients and visitors in a sensitive and empathetic manner responding to their emotional needs. To assess the need for, and utilise, the appropriate levels of tact, understanding and sensitivity as required.To communicate findings directly to patients, clinicians, GPs and nursing staff as appropriate and according to departmental guidelines.To be an excellent communicator, attending the multidisciplinary meetings where possible, making recommendations with increasing contribution in MDT meetings.Working for our organisationOur TrustCambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust comprises Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. In some cases, alternative working hours will be considered.We welcome applications from the Armed Forces.Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria- HCPC registered Radiographer- Post graduate award in Mammography- At least 1 year post PgCert qualification- At least 1 level 7 post graduate module (Clinical breast examination/Image Interpretation/Ultrasound etc.) or willingness to undertake this.Desirable criteria- Leadership experience or willingness to undertake training- Competent in CEM procedures and cannulationExperienceEssential criteria- Experience in practical symptomatic and screening mammography- High standard of image interpretation- An understanding of Quality Control and Quality Assurance- Understanding of the image review process- Evidence of involvement in auditsDesirable criteria- Aid junior members of staff and assist with training of Radiologists, Radiographers and Assistant practitioners- Willingness to attend and present at university lectures as and when requiredKnowledgeEssential criteria- Have previous knowledge of symptomatic and screening mammography principles- Keyboard and computer familiarity- Use of Microsoft publicationsDesirable criteria- EPIC experienceSkillsEssential criteria- Understanding the importance of team working- Good organisational skills- Good communication and interpersonal skills- Good team player and ability to work within an MDT- Ability to work independentlyDesirable criteria- Current UK driving license- Ability to travel to mobile units if requiredAdditional RequirementsEssential criteria- The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Together – Safe, Kind, Excellent.Desirable criteria- Practice and service development- Undertake audits as part of MSc- Audits of own practice
