Job DescriptionDescription: TITLE: Lead Mechanic (2nd shift) DEPARTMENT: Fleet Maintenance REPORTS TO: Fleet Maintenance/Facilities Supervisor FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Revised: 01/29/2026 Position Summary: The Lead Mechanic 2nd shift, under the direction of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for overseeing and performing comprehensive inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment. This role serves as a technical expert and frontline leader, providing guidance, training, and support to mechanics to ensure quality workmanship, operational efficiency, and adherence to safety and maintenance standards. The work hours are 2nd shift hours beginning at approximately 3 PM Monday – Friday. Essential Functions: • Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems across Tiger’s fleet of commercial vehicles and equipment., • Conduct detailed inspections and routine preventative maintenance in compliance with DOT regulations and internal standards, including oil changes, fluid checks, brake inspections, and safety assessments., • Ensure all repairs meet OSHA, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations., • Lead and mentor junior mechanics and technicians, providing hands-on technical guidance and fostering professional development., • Conduct performance evaluations for team members, providing constructive feedback and coaching to support continuous improvement., • Implement and oversee Quality Control Inspections to ensure work meets safety, reliability, and compliance standards., • Promote and enforce adherence to Tiger Sanitation’s safety procedures and protocols through regular coaching and on-the-job reinforcement., • Deliver process training to maintenance staff to ensure consistency, efficiency, and knowledge transfer across the team., • Maintain accurate service records and communicate findings and recommendations to management to support fleet readiness and regulatory compliance., • Serve as a liaison between the maintenance team and other departments to reduce vehicle downtime and support operational goals., • Utilize and maintain proficiency in fleet management and diagnostic software systems including Samsara, Fleetio, Tech Tools, and any additional platforms incorporated into Tiger Sanitation’s maintenance protocols.Requirements: Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: • Demonstrated experience supervising multiple technicians in both shop and field service environments, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality service delivery., • Proficient in the use of maintenance and fleet management software systems, including Samsara, Fleetio, Tech Tools, and other diagnostic, documentation, and reporting platforms essential to maintenance operations., • Strong working knowledge of vehicle systems and mechanical diagnostics across a variety of equipment and vehicle types., • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage tasks effectively to meet individual and team performance goals., • Proven decision-making skills aligned with Tiger Sanitation’s 4-Step Decision Making Process, ensuring consistent, value-driven outcomes., • Committed to consistently presenting Tiger Sanitation as the obvious choice to customers, employees, and the community through high standards of service and representation., • Actively embodies and promotes Tiger Sanitation’s Core Values: Professionalism, Respect, Accountability, and Communication in all interactions and responsibilities., • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while also excelling in collaborative team environments., • Possesses all necessary tools required to perform comprehensive vehicle maintenance and repairs. Education and Experience: • Class A or B certification, preferred, • Required High School diploma or equivalent of education preferred, • 1+ years of repair and preventative maintenance experience, • Must possess tools required for vehicle maintenance, • Class C Driver’s license required Working Conditions: • 2nd shift starting at approximately 3 PM working approximately 10-12 hour shifts, • Work is primarily conducted in outdoor or shop environments, with exposure to various weather conditions and mechanical elements, • Requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, and lifting equipment (50 pounds) and materials, • Due to operational demands, this position may need to support multiple locations as needed Tiger Sanitation is an Equal Opportunity Employer – disability/veteran.
