Job Description The BIM Designer supports complex electrical construction projects by developing highly detailed 2D and 3D models and drawings that directly drive field installation and prefabrication activities. This role works closely with senior designers, project managers, and field forepersons to translate design concepts into constructible, dimensionally precise models that improve productivity, reduce clashes, and enhance coordination across trades. The BIM Designer focuses on electrical systems for large, long-duration projects and uses Revit and related tools to create functional, buildable models rather than purely conceptual designs. Responsibilities • Develop Revit model families for both general use and project-specific electrical needs, ensuring they are accurate, reusable, and aligned with project standards., • Produce shop drawings, submittal drawings, as-built drawings, installation drawings, and other project documentation that field teams and prefabrication departments can use directly for construction., • Model electrical system components in Revit, including switchgear, conduit, cable tray, lighting, and related elements, with a clear understanding of how these systems will be installed in the field., • Create highly detailed, dimensionally accurate drawings that allow field and prefabrication teams to replicate the model in construction, going beyond typical engineering-level detail., • Attend internal and external coordination meetings, including BIM coordination and clash detection sessions, to help identify and resolve issues early in the design and construction process., • Represent the company professionally in BIM coordination and clash detection meetings, working with project teams to coordinate work, clear clashes, and meet project BIM requirements., • Assist with the coordination and management of electronic project files, ensuring models, drawings, and related documents are organized, current, and accessible to stakeholders., • Use Revit, Navisworks, MEP tools, Bluebeam, MS Office, Robotic Total Station software, and related technologies to support modeling, coordination, layout, and documentation tasks., • Create installation drawings and layout information that jobsite personnel can use to install electrical systems efficiently and accurately., • Coordinate installation layouts with other trades to avoid conflicts and ensure constructability in complex environments such as healthcare facilities, data centers, and industrial plants., • Provide detailed information and drawings to coworkers to support sub-assembly and prefabrication activities, helping to streamline production and reduce field labor., • Support large electrical projects, typically over one year in duration and with significant electrical contract values, by managing one major project at a time while also assisting with smaller side projects., • Collaborate closely with the BIM Manager and other team members, contributing ideas to improve processes, increase efficiency, and enhance the quality of deliverables., • Manage project schedules related to BIM deliverables, ensuring drawings and models are completed on time and meet established quality specifications., • Apply knowledge of electrical layouts, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, and NEC-related requirements to ensure that models and drawings are accurate and code-compliant., • Mentor and support junior staff when acting as a lead on projects, providing guidance on Revit workflows, electrical modeling standards, and project coordination practices., • Communicate effectively with external design firms, contractors, and end customers to clarify requirements, address questions, and ensure alignment on BIM expectations., • Continuously seek opportunities to refine standard processes on industrial and large-scale projects so that each subsequent project becomes more efficient and repeatable. Skills & Qualifications • Experience building custom electrical Revit families is a plus and highly valued for this role., • Expert-level Revit skills, particularly in electrical modeling and family creation, are a strong advantage., • Electrical knowledge or background, such as prior work in electrical design, drafting, or field experience, is beneficial., • An associate degree in a related field (such as drafting, design technology, electrical technology, or similar) is preferred., • Experience with MEP modeling and architectural coordination in Revit is helpful for working with multidisciplinary teams., • Familiarity with Bluebeam and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation, markups, and communication., • Experience using Robotic Total Station software or similar layout tools is a plus for supporting field layout activities., • Forward-thinking mindset with a strong desire to advance skills, contribute to process improvements, and adopt cutting-edge BIM practices., • Experience supporting large-scale projects such as schools, hospitals, data centers, battery storage facilities, and industrial plants is advantageous., • Ability to run a project with minimal direction when acting as a BIM lead, including coordinating with project stakeholders and mentoring junior staff. Work Environment The BIM Designer works within an established electrical division that focuses on industrial, commercial, and institutional projects, including healthcare facilities, schools, clinics, data centers, battery storage installations, large solar and power plants, and other complex electrical jobs. Projects often span 3–5 miles of infrastructure and involve extensive underground conduit systems and large-scale electrical layouts, requiring a repeatable and scalable BIM process. The team has been using Revit extensively since 2013 and is recognized as having one of the stronger BIM departments in the region, with a reputation for producing a high volume of accurate, data-rich models that directly support field and prefabrication operations. The BIM group consists of a small, focused team of Revit Technicians led by a forward-thinking CAD/BIM Manager who emphasizes efficiency, innovation, and cutting-edge design practices. The role is primarily office-based on a flexible first-shift schedule, with an expectation to work collaboratively to meet project deadlines. The position can be based in any of three office locations, and after 12 months of employment, there is an option to work remotely one day per week.
