Job DescriptionDescription: Prevention Coordinator (PC) (Full-time, 40 hours) Exempt BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side. Since 1969, BUILD has worked to save lives and mentor young people who live in the city’s most challenged neighborhoods. The Prevention Coordinator (PC) will coordinate programs in schools, and in out-of-school time programs with youth, some of whom have identified behavioral challenges. The (PC) also establishes and sustains a working relationship with participants, their parents, and other professional staff who are involved with out-of-school time programs. The (PC) reports directly to the Manager of Prevention Services (MPS). Responsibilities are but not limited to: • Provides an environment applying trauma-informed methods and restorative practice to promote a quality program in a relaxed atmosphere in all component areas: visual & performing arts, digital media, restorative justice, community building, academic support, health and wellness, life skills, and parent engagement, • Provides overall supervision and evaluations to the BUILD out-of-school time prevention staff. Meets weekly with staff team, providing positive direction and assists teaching staff in developing realistic individual and group goals and in their activity planning, • Schedules staff vacations/personal days, ensuring child/staff ratio is maintained and vacation form is completed in a timely manner. Also ensures completion of incident reports, accident reports, medication forms and logs, • Maintains staff schedules and share with school administration and Manager., • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans, instructional materials that facilitate active learning, and field trips, • Ensures property/inventory is maintained, and orders supplies, • Assures planning and implementation of a variety of diverse, culturally sensitive, and enjoyable daily activities which meet Illinois State Learning Standards and NAA and YPQA standards including summer program, school vacations and holidays, • Ensures ongoing communication with the school administration as we are an external partner to them., • Develop positive relationships with the parents, advocating for them, providing leadership and guidance techniques, assisting them in securing necessary resources, and encouraging them to participate in program activities, etc., • Ensure recruitment efforts are implemented to meet full enrollment in the program, • Ensure all individual and group efforts are documented and recorded in internal and external databases by set deadlines, • Ensure the collection of all academic and supporting documentation on each youth participating in the program, • Submit reporting documents monthly and/or as needed, • Maintain file compliance as according to requirements and deadlines set by the organization, • Responsible for the program complying with all internal and external requirements and performance standards, including promoting the health and safety of all children, following sanitation procedures and universal precautions, completing a bi-annual physical exam, complying with the Confidentiality and Child Abuse and Neglect Acts as a mandated reporter, as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act and the BUILD Youth Services Staff manual policy and procedures, • Attends departmental and agency-wide staff meetings, as scheduled and agency-wide events as required, • Performs other job-related duties as requested, required and/or assigned, • Completes maintenance request/repair forms and gives to designated BUILD staff for follow up. Assures proper care and maintenance of the program equipment and space, as well as building security, including ensuring that program spaces are clean and well maintained, and the building is properly secured daily Requirements:, • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Program Administration, Child Development, Social Work, Human Services, Art Education, or a related field preferred, but not required, • A minimum of 4 years of youth development program facilitation is required, • A minimum of 3 years of program coordination and supervision experience is required, • Operate professionally in the field on a flexible time schedule, which includes late evenings and weekends, • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and deadline simultaneously effectively and efficiently, • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential with the ability to integrate technology into daily program operations and evaluation systems required, • Must possess solid understanding of data collection and compliance, • Must maintain respectful and appropriate relationships with program participants, all level of agency staff and various publics of the agency; demonstrating sensitivity to all ethnic, racial and economic backgrounds and embracing the agency’s mission, values and culture, • Must pass State Background Check & Federal Fingerprints PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer., • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times., • As of October 15, 2021, all BUILD employees are required to submit proof of full vaccination status.
