Role Description The Technical Manager is responsible for designing, optimising, and maintaining technical processes to ensure safe, and high-quality production. The role supports production, quality, and maintenance teams by providing technical expertise, ensuring compliance with food safety standards (HACCP, BRCGS), and delivering continuous improvement across the site. Key Responsibilities • Lead all technical, quality, and food safety activities in the plant, • Ensure full compliance with food safety legislation, BRCGS standards, retailer codes of practice, and microbiological safety requirements., • Oversee and maintain HACCP plans, QMS, TACCP/VACCP, allergen controls, and environmental monitoring programmes., • Manage internal, external, and third-party audits, ensuring the site is always audit-ready., • Oversee product specifications, labelling, shelf-life validation, and process controls., • Conduct supplier approval processes, raw material assessments, and ensure compliance with high-risk ingredient controls., • Support NPD with technical expertise during concept development, factory trials, and product launches., • Manage customer technical relationships, handling queries, product complaints, and site visits professionally., • Drive continuous improvement in hygiene, quality standards, process efficiencies, and food safety culture across the business., • Implement both immediate corrective actions and long-term preventive solutions., • Lead, mentor, and develop the technical and quality assurance teams. Qualifications and Experience Essential: • Degree in Food Science or similar science degree., • Proven technical or quality management experience within Chilled, High-Care, or High-Risk food manufacturing., • Experience with BRCGS, retailer technical standards, and audit management., • Experience with nut/seed processing, pastes, oils, or viscous food products., • Understanding of hygienic design standards (EHEDG)., • Familiarity with CIP systems, heat exchangers, and grinding technologies.
