About the job Rutherford is partnered with a market-leading international law firm with a top-tier reputation in oil and gas. The firm’s London-based Oil & Gas Team is the largest UK-based team dedicated to the sector, advising clients around the world on complex, high-value, and high-profile mandates. The team covers all aspects of the industry, including upstream and downstream operations, LNG, platforms, pipelines, FPSOs, shipping, transportation, gas storage, decommissioning, M&A, financing, and the energy transition. As an experienced Energy Associate (2-4PQE) you’ll join a high-performing team advising supermajors, national oil companies, independents, contractors, and financiers across multiple jurisdictions. Working alongside international colleagues, you’ll gain exposure to sophisticated cross-border projects and deals, as well as innovative energy transition initiatives including solar, wind, battery storage, CCUS, and hydrogen developments. Key responsibilities • Advise clients on M&A, projects, and supply chain mandates across the UK and international markets., • Support complex upstream, downstream, LNG, FPSO, platform, pipeline, shipping, and transportation projects., • Assist with regulatory, commercial, and dispute matters relating to the oil and gas sector., • Contribute to energy transition and climate-related initiatives, including renewables and CCUS., • Collaborate with colleagues across jurisdictions on cross-border transactions and projects., • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements and project documentation with precision and commercial awareness. What you’ll bring • 2–4 PQE experience in oil and gas, energy, or related transactional and project work, ideally gained at a leading international or City firm., • Experience across M&A, projects, or supply chain mandates within the oil and gas sector., • Strong commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach to client solutions., • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills., • The ability to work effectively within a collaborative, high-calibre team environment., • Interest in cross-border matters and energy transition projects.
