Company Description\n \n PJA Technical Consult Ltd provides specialist technical consultancy and advisory services across the design and build sector, supporting main contractors, landlords, and professional teams. We work with a wide range of clients, including BBC, WeWork, The Hut Group, Polestar, and AMEX, across office fit-out, universities, and commercial property projects throughout the UK. \n Our core expertise spans M&E design and strategy, building surveys and reporting, feasibility studies, and MEP costing analysis, alongside low carbon and energy efficiency assessment, client monitoring, specialist service coordination, commissioning management, and critical services - offering end-to-end support on complex projects. We're a fast-growing, ambitious consultancy, and we're looking for people who want to grow with us. Role Description\n \n As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll take ownership of mechanical design across a portfolio of projects - from early-stage feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, technical review, and site support during construction and commissioning. You'll act as the technical authority on your projects, reviewing and signing off the work of mid-weight and junior engineers, while owning client relationships day to day across sectors including office fit-out, universities, and commercial developments. This is a senior, client-facing role for someone who wants real ownership rather than a supporting brief - you'll be the person clients call directly, not the person whose work gets relayed through someone else. Responsibilities\n\n • Lead mechanical design packages from concept through to detailed design and construction support, across office fit-out, university, and commercial projects\n, • Review and sign off calculations, drawings, and specifications produced by mid-weight and junior engineers\n, • Own client relationships day to day - acting as the primary technical point of contact, managing expectations, and building trust over the life of a project and beyond\n, • Provide clear, confident advice and guidance to clients on M&E strategy, feasibility, and design options, including in client meetings and site walkarounds\n, • Conduct site inspections and surveys to assess existing conditions and identify design requirements\n, • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems, resolving technical issues as they arise on site\n, • Lead low carbon and energy efficiency design input, including value engineering options for clients\n, • Mentor and technically develop mid-weight and junior engineers within the team\n, • Manage project budgets, programmes, and deliverables for your own workload\n, • Ensure all design output complies with relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards\nEssential Requirements\n\n, • Degree (or HNC/HND with equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (desired)\n, • Minimum 5+ years' experience in building services design and consultancy, with a track record of running projects with minimal supervision\n, • Comfortable and confident managing client relationships directly - you'll be the face of PJA on your projects, not just the engineer behind the drawings\n, • Chartered (or working toward chartership) with IMechE, CIBSE, or an equivalent institution\n, • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit and mechanical calculation software, with experience producing and reviewing full MEP design packages\n, • Proven ability to review and sign off the work of others, with strong attention to technical accuracy\n, • Solid knowledge of low carbon and energy-efficient design principles\n, • Willingness to travel to site and work flexibly when project needs require it\nHow You'll Work - Our Values\n \n Technical Excellence \n You'll be the technical backstop for your projects - reviewing and signing off calculations, drawings, and specifications produced by others, and holding the line on accuracy and rigour even under programme pressure. \n Honesty & Integrity \n You'll give clients and colleagues the straight answer, not the easy one - including when a design needs to change, a cost has moved, or a mistake needs owning. You'll be trusted to represent PJA directly with clients without needing to check every position first. \n Teamwork & Collaboration \n You'll share what you know with mid-weight and junior engineers as a matter of course, not just when asked, and you'll measure success by what your team and your clients achieve, not just your own output. What We Offer\n\n • A fast-growing, exciting young workplace, with genuine opportunity to grow as we grow\n, • Flexible hybrid working - 2 days a week in the office, the rest from home\n, • 25 days annual leave (pro-rata), plus bank holidays, Christmas shutdown, and your birthday off\n, • Loyalty holidays - accrue 1 extra day of leave per year of service, up to 5 extra days\n, • Flexi-hours - full hours are 9am–5:30pm, but core hours are just 10am–4:00pm\n, • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption leave policies\n, • Pension - 3% employer contribution\nReady to Apply?\n If you're ready for a role with real client ownership and the scope to shape how projects are delivered, we'd love to hear from you. Apply with your CV, or get in touch to find out more. \n
