Job DescriptionPrimary Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist - Traveler Alternate/Related Job Titles: • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), • Medical Technologist (MT), • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), • Clinical Laboratory Scientist, • Position Type: Contract, • Contract Duration: 6 Months, • Start Date: April 1, 2026, • Shift: Third Shift (Night Shift), • Shift Hours: 9:00 PM – 6:30 AM (EST)Job SummaryThe Medical Laboratory Scientist – Traveler performs laboratory testing on patient specimens to support accurate diagnosis and treatment. This role is responsible for specimen analysis, maintaining quality control procedures, reviewing test results, and ensuring compliance with laboratory regulatory standards including CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA. The position requires strong laboratory knowledge, experience with high-complexity testing, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.Key Responsibilities, • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, and reporting patient test results, • Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens, • Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures according to department SOPs, • Review and release laboratory test results, • Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines, • Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance, • Follow established policies when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels, • Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting and notify senior technologists or supervisors as needed, • Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications, • Follow department procedures when reporting STAT or critical results, • Respond to questions from customers or laboratory personnel when applicable, • Maintain complete records of all testing performed on-site, • Maintain the general appearance and organization of the laboratory department, • Ensure reagents and test kits are labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates, • Review and train on new laboratory procedures, • Attend monthly department meetings and training sessions, • Participate in safety training and understand the location and use of safety equipment and manuals, • Participate in regulatory inspections when required, • Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisorRequired Knowledge, • Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing procedures, • Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) processes, • Knowledge of all areas of the laboratory, • Strong computer skills and ability to work across multiple laboratory systemsRequired Education, • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology preferred, OR, • BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, OR, • Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, OR, • Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (March 14, 1990)Additional Education Requirements:, • Foreign educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation), • U.S. educated candidates must provide an original detailed transcriptRequired Certifications / Licenses, • ASCP Certification required, • Must possess or be eligible for MT / MLT national certification from recognized organizations such as ASCP or AMT, • National and State licensure as requiredRequired Experience, • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing for candidates with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, • 1 year of clinical laboratory experience preferredSpecial Requirements, • Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple procedures simultaneously, • Ability to collaborate with other departments, • Strong customer service skills when interacting with clients, • Must maintain strict patient confidentiality at all timesAdditional Requirements, • COVID-19 Vaccination RequiredBenefits, • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans We are a Native American-owned, economically disadvantaged corporation that highly values diverse and inclusive workplaces.
