Job DescriptionJob Title: Process Technician (2nd and 3rd Shift) Job Description The Process Technician supports plastic injection molding operations on 2nd and 3rd shift by setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting high-tonnage presses and associated robotic equipment. After an initial training period on 1st shift, this role ensures that machines run efficiently, materials are correctly set up, and quality standards are consistently met in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities • Operate as the primary process technician on 3rd shift, supporting plastic injection molding operations across multiple presses., • Work with mold setters and material handlers to ensure the correct resins are loaded into each machine and properly prepared for production., • Set up and verify molds on plastic injection presses, including ensuring valve gates are correctly positioned and functioning., • Start up plastic injection molding machines and confirm that material, temperature, and water settings align with specified process parameters., • Use step-by-step check sheets for each machine to track processes, document settings, and maintain consistent production quality., • Respond promptly when operators report quality issues, including when three bad parts occur in a row or when ten bad parts are detected within an hour., • Troubleshoot plastic injection machines to resolve processing issues, including material flow, temperature, and cycle time problems., • Troubleshoot robots associated with the presses when they are bumped out of alignment or not picking up parts correctly or quickly enough., • Escalate issues requiring additional programming or reprogramming to the robot programmer while providing clear, detailed information about the problem., • Collaborate with team members to perform color changes and handle raw resins safely and efficiently., • Support hot stamp technology processes as needed, ensuring proper setup and operation when applicable., • Use basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, to record production data, update check sheets, and communicate process information., • Operate material handling equipment, such as Hilo or overhead cranes, to support mold changes and material movement when required., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with facility standards and procedures.Essential Skills, • At least 3 years of experience working as a process technician in a manufacturing environment., • Minimum of 3 years of experience in plastics, specifically within plastic injection molding operations., • At least 2 years of previous experience setting molds on plastic injection presses., • At least 3 years of experience starting up plastic injection molding machines, including setting and verifying process parameters., • Hands-on experience with plastic injection molding processes, including troubleshooting and process optimization., • Ability to work with nylon, polypropylene, and Acetal (polyoxymethylene) resins in an injection molding environment., • Experience troubleshooting plastic injection presses and related equipment to resolve production and quality issues., • Experience collaborating with mold setters, material handlers, and machine operators in a production setting., • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and communication., • Valid driver’s license., • Experience handling raw resins and performing color changes in a plastics manufacturing environment., • Experience operating Hilo and/or overhead crane equipment for material and mold handling., • Ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift and complete initial training on 1st shift.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • RJG training or experience using RJG systems for process monitoring and optimization., • Experience working with robotics in a manufacturing environment, including basic troubleshooting of robotic equipment., • Familiarity with hot stamp technology used in plastics manufacturing., • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly diagnose and correct process and equipment issues., • Attention to detail when following step-by-step check sheets and documenting machine settings., • Effective communication skills to work closely with operators, mold setters, material handlers, and technical staff., • Ability to work independently on shift while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a dedicated plastic injection molding facility in a larger multi-plant manufacturing operation. The site runs multiple Cincinnati presses, with approximately 14 machines ranging from 350 tons to 1950 tons, producing plastic components such as chairs for major customers. You will work primarily on 2nd or 3rd shift, with the first week of training conducted on 1st shift to learn the equipment, processes, and check sheets. The environment is a typical industrial manufacturing setting with active production lines, injection molding machines, and associated robots. You will regularly interact with mold setters, material handlers, and machine operators, and may use Hilo and overhead cranes to support mold changes and material movement. Work involves handling raw resins, performing color changes, and working around automated equipment, with appropriate safety procedures and protective gear followed at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $54800.00 - $66000.00/yr. There are quarterly bonuses paid out. Cascade has excellent medical benefits. Additional trainings and schooling offerings. Medical benefits start on day one of employment as a direct employee. The employee only yearly deductible is $300 per year and the weekly premiums are pretty low. They start out with two weeks vacation for a year but it is prorated depending on when they start.
