Job Description Assistant Controller Location: Everett, Washington Reports to: Senior Controller FLSA Status: Exempt The opportunity JAMCO Interiors is seeking an experienced and hands-on Assistant Controller to strengthen financial reporting, accounting analysis, and the quality of financial information across the business. Reporting to the Senior Controller, this role will provide the technical and execution capacity needed to elevate the Controller’s focus toward senior review, leadership, judgment, and accounting transformation. The Assistant Controller will lead critical accounting reviews and analyses, resolve complex issues, and convert accounting information into practical insights and solutions. The role is intentionally focused on financial-information quality, analysis, controls, team development, and process improvement rather than direct ownership of routine transaction processing. The Assistant Controller will work closely with Accounting, Strategic Finance, Operations, Program Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Information Technology, and tax and audit advisors. This is an opportunity for a strong accounting professional who enjoys working through details, solving problems, developing others, and building simpler and more scalable processes within a complex aerospace engineering and manufacturing environment. What you will do Financial close and corporate reporting Lead key activities within the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring that financial information and supporting schedules are accurate, complete, timely, and consistently prepared. Coordinate close deliverables across the Accounting team, identify issues and dependencies early, and support continued reduction of the close and reporting cycle. Prepare and review corporate financial-reporting packages to ensure compliance with required deadlines, formats, accounting definitions, level of detail, supporting documentation, and management explanations. Perform detailed reviews of financial results, significant variances, unusual items, and changes in estimates; clearly communicate conclusions, risks, and required actions to the Senior Controller and Finance leadership. Improve the consistency and decision usefulness of financial reporting while maintaining a clear connection between subsidiary records, corporate requirements, and management reporting. Balance-sheet integrity, reconciliations, and estimates Lead balance-sheet reviews and account-reconciliation quality, including completeness, supporting documentation, aging, reviewer evidence, issue resolution, and timely certification. Review significant journal entries, accruals, reserves, allocations, cut-off, intercompany balances, and foreign-currency activity for accuracy, reasonableness, and appropriate support. Evaluate the completeness and accuracy of estimates and judgmental balances, challenge unsupported assumptions, and coordinate corrective actions before reporting deadlines. Identify recurring errors, unreconciled items, and control gaps; determine root causes and implement sustainable solutions with accountable process owners. Standard costs, inventory, and manufacturing analysis Lead the annual standard-cost setting process and periodic updates, including material, labor, overhead, burden rates, bills of material, routings, and alignment with expected manufacturing activity. Review the accounting integrity of raw materials, work in process, finished goods, outside processing, and inventory held at third parties. Analyze purchase-price, labor, overhead, manufacturing, usage, efficiency, and production-volume variances; distinguish accounting issues from operational drivers and communicate actionable insights. Support physical and cycle counts, inventory reconciliations, cut-off, scrap, obsolescence, excess inventory, and lower-of-cost-or-net-realizable-value assessments. Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Program Management, and Strategic Finance to improve the connection among ERP transactions, production activity, inventory records, the general ledger, program performance, and management reporting. Technical accounting, tax, and complex initiatives Research and analyze complex or nonroutine accounting matters and prepare clear, well-supported position papers and recommendations for review by the Senior Controller and CFO. Support accounting and analysis for long-term contracts, revenue recognition, customer advances, leases, capital projects, reserves, contingencies, restructurings, and business transformations. Lead or support complex initiatives such as sale-leaseback analyses, legal-entity changes, intercompany arrangements, transfer pricing, and expansion into new jurisdictions. Coordinate annual income-tax audits and other tax reviews, maintain supporting documentation, and work with internal and external advisors to resolve issues efficiently. Analyze tax provisions, permanent and temporary differences, credits and incentives, exposures, and planning alternatives to support compliance, cash management, and sustainable improvement of the effective tax rate. Business insights and problem solving Translate accounting results and manufacturing-cost information into clear insights for Finance and business leaders. Investigate unexpected trends and variances, determine root causes, assess financial implications, and recommend practical solutions. Support profitability, working-capital, cash, and operational analyses by ensuring that underlying accounting information is reliable and appropriately interpreted. Provide ad hoc accounting and financial analysis for strategic and tactical initiatives led by the Senior Controller, CFO, or broader leadership team. Process simplification, systems, and controls Simplify and standardize close, reporting, reconciliation, costing, inventory, and analytical processes while preserving appropriate review and control. Develop practical solutions that eliminate recurring corrections, inconsistent booking, manual handoffs, duplicate reporting, and unnecessary work. Identify and implement automation opportunities across reconciliations, journal-entry support, close management, variance analysis, and financial reporting. Partner with Information Technology and process owners to improve ERP configuration, data quality, reporting tools, integrations, access, and change controls. Support the design, documentation, monitoring, and remediation of internal controls affecting financial reporting and inventory. Team leadership and partnership Provide day-to-day technical guidance, review, coaching, and development to accounting team members without assuming direct ownership of routine transaction processing. Strengthen the team’s accounting judgment, analytical skills, documentation, attention to detail, and ability to resolve issues independently. Establish clear expectations, priorities, review standards, and accountability for assigned close, reporting, costing, and analytical activities. Serve as a trusted partner to the Senior Controller and provide candid, fact-based perspectives, practical alternatives, and reliable follow-through. Collaborate effectively across functions and translate accounting requirements into practical processes that support the business. What you bring Required qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. Generally, 8 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including significant responsibility for financial reporting, close, cost accounting, inventory, reconciliations, or controllership activities. Strong command of U.S. GAAP, financial statement preparation, balance-sheet accounting, accruals and estimates, revenue recognition, and internal controls. Substantial experience with standard costing, inventory, manufacturing variances, and operational accounting in aerospace, defense, engineered products, or another complex manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to research complex accounting matters, perform rigorous analysis, document conclusions, and communicate practical recommendations. Experience improving close, reporting, accounting processes, ERP utilization, data quality, or automation. Ability to manage competing deadlines, work through detailed information, exercise sound judgment, and build effective cross-functional relationships. Preferred qualifications CPA or CMA certification; an advanced degree is also valued. Experience with aerospace program accounting, long-term contracts, estimates at completion, customer advances, engineering development programs, or aftermarket operations. Experience supporting income-tax audits, tax provisions, transfer pricing, sale-leaseback transactions, or legal-entity changes. Experience in a multinational, private equity-backed, or transformation-oriented organization. Experience with ERP, close-management, reconciliation, workflow, business-intelligence, or financial-reporting tools.
