Job DescriptionDescription: Salary Range: $50-55K Job Summary The Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator builds and sustains a thriving volunteer program that advances clean water and community health with residents from Baltimore City and County. This role designs equitable systems for volunteer recruitment, training, scheduling, and recognition; coordinates with program teams to deliver high-quality engagement events; and uses data to continuously improve outcomes. The ideal candidate is Baltimore-savvy, people-centered, highly organized, and committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). The role will support the organization’s environmental mission by recruiting, training, coordinating, and retaining volunteers for various programs, projects, and events. The Coordinator also facilitates informational events and community briefings that introduce residents and partners to Blue Water Baltimore’s programs, services, and ways to get involved, and leads community-driven engagement grounded in cultural humility and long-term relationship building. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Volunteer Management (Recruitment, Coordination, Retention & Engagement): • Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers for a variety of programs and events., • Build and cultivate partnerships with individuals, community organizations, schools, businesses, and other organizations to source volunteers and promote volunteer opportunities., • Attend events and outreach activities to promote Blue Water Baltimore and recruit volunteers., • Organize and lead volunteer orientation and training sessions, ensuring all volunteers are informed about Blue Water Baltimore’s mission, programs, and policies., • Schedule and assign volunteers to specific projects, tasks, or events based on their skills, interests, and availability., • Foster positive relationships with volunteers through regular communication, appreciation, and support., • Develop and implement standardized operating procedures for engagement events in order to ensure consistent volunteer experiences across a broad range of activities., • Organize, plan, execute, and maintain budgetary needs for volunteer appreciation, recognition, and community-building activities aimed at celebrating volunteer impact., • Implement feedback mechanisms to improve volunteer experience and satisfaction., • Coordinate follow-up emails for volunteers including appreciation notes, action items, surveys, and other communication as needed., • Co-design, plan, and lead community-facing events (tree giveaways, cleanups, workshops, tabling, trainings)., • Build agendas and run-of-show; coordinate speakers, AV, space setup, signage, materials/tools, and safety briefings., • Facilitate engaging, culturally responsive presentations and dialogues with residents, families, youth, and partners., • Coordinate all day-of volunteer management (assignments, check-in, quick trainings, role coverage) and ensure timely post-event follow-up and data entry., • Conduct proactive neighborhood outreach to expand Blue Water Baltimore’s reach; maintain a quarterly calendar of community association meetings, grassroots events, and partner touchpoints., • Build and maintain partnerships with grassroots organizations, tenant/neighborhood associations, and mutual-aid groups., • Collaborate with program staff to understand volunteer needs for different projects and initiatives., • Contribute to the planning and development of new initiatives or projects by advising on the role of volunteers, including structuring volunteer involvement and anticipating any additional resources or support needed, ensuring that volunteer management aligns with organizational direction and goals., • Lead and support fellow staff members in the implementation of engagement events., • In collaboration with other staff, utilize the Program Impact Rubric tool to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of volunteer programs, ensuring they align with organizational goals and deliver impact., • Amplify programmatic impact by sharing pictures and stories about volunteers and engagement events with Communications staff, and add content to social media queues., • Facilitate welcoming, culturally responsive engagements that reflect community priorities and lived experience.., • Practice cultural humility and trauma-informed approaches; create feedback loops (listening sessions, follow-ups) to learn and improve with community guidance., • Strengthen relationships and partnerships with underrepresented neighborhoods and grassroots leaders to build long-term trust and shared stewardship.,Requirements: Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in volunteer management, community organizing, or program coordination, preferably in the nonprofit sector., • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects., • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to engage a diverse range of volunteers., • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and outreach with underrepresented communities; practices cultural humility., • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team., • Strong problem-solving skills to handle challenges in a constructive manner., • Experience planning and facilitating trainings, events, and public presentations; comfortable leading run-of-show and group discussions., • Strong computer skills, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Asana (or similar project tools), and CRMs (preferably Salesforce)., • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to transport event supplies., • Availability for a unique schedule: Tuesday–Saturday during peak seasons (Saturdays required); possibility of Monday–Friday during non-peak seasons; some evenings required., • Commitment to environmental stewardship and the organization’s mission.
