Full-Time | Non-Exempt Support Learning, Inspire Growth The Children’s Center of Hamden is seeking a dedicated and skilled Special Education Paraprofessional to join our Educational Services Department. In this role, you’ll provide direct academic and behavioral support to students with disabilities under the guidance of classroom teachers and school administrators. You’ll help implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), reinforce instruction, assist with classroom management, and promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. While this is not a supervisory role, you may be asked to act as a substitute for teachers during meetings or absences. What You’ll Do As a Special Education Paraprofessional, you will: * Assist teachers in implementing students’ IEPs, including behavior support, accommodations, and instructional goals. * Support classroom management by organizing instructional materials and reinforcing routines. * Work with individual students or small groups to address targeted academic and behavioral goals. * Follow teacher directives to provide instructional support and maintain classroom routines. * Serve as a substitute for teachers during meetings (e.g., PPTs, case conferences, parent conferences) or absences. * Attend professional development, staff meetings, and school in-services as assigned. * Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues. * Collect and input daily behavioral and academic data. * Assist students during specials, lunch, and transitions throughout the day. * Provide one-to-one tutoring or IEP/504 support in specialized settings such as libraries or media centers. * Perform other duties as assigned to support the Educational Services Department. What We’re Looking For * Associate’s degree in Human Services or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment required. * Two (2) years of experience in human services preferred. * Knowledge of direct care, instructional strategies, and behavior support techniques. * Ability to maintain discipline, manage conflict, and provide a safe learning environment. * Strong interpersonal skills, maturity, and professional judgment. * Applicants with 60+ college credits and relevant classroom experience may also be considered. Physical & Work Environment Requirements * Ability to perform light to moderate lifting, standing, walking, bending, and other physical tasks required for classroom support. * Comfort working in dynamic classroom settings and occasionally in residential or non-instructional environments. * Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and secure learning environment.
