PMLD Teacher - Special Needs School Location: Carshalton, South London Working Hours: 08:30 am - 16:30 pm Salary: M1 - UPS3 Are you a dedicated and compassionate teacher with a passion for supporting children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex needs? We are seeking an inspiring and patient PMLD Teacher to join a supportive and forward-thinking special needs school. The Role: As a PMLD Teacher, you will lead a small, well-supported class of pupils with complex needs, delivering highly individualised lessons that promote communication, sensory engagement, emotional regulation, and personal development. Working closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and medical staff, you’ll ensure that every learner’s needs are met holistically in a safe, structured, and stimulating environment. Key Responsibilities Deliver Personalised Lessons: Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that support sensory, physical, communication, and social development. Holistic Support: Focus on developing communication, independence, emotional regulation, and social interaction through structured and supportive learning environments. Collaborate with Specialists: Work alongside therapists, support assistants, and healthcare professionals to meet each pupil’s physical, emotional, and educational needs. Assistive Communication: Use tools such as PECS, Makaton, AAC, and visual supports to aid expressive and receptive communication. EHCP Management: Contribute to and review Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring all targets are relevant, achievable, and centred around the pupil’s individual needs. Behaviour and Care Support: Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment, supporting learners with emotional regulation and physical care where required. Track Progress: Record and monitor pupil progress, celebrating achievements and identifying next steps for development. Family Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents and carers, keeping them updated on progress and celebrating successes. What We’re Looking For To be successful in this role, you will need: • A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, or equivalent)., • Experience teaching pupils with PMLD, SLD, autism, or complex SEND needs., • A compassionate and adaptable teaching approach with a strong understanding of sensory and structured learning., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and external professionals., • Knowledge of assistive technologies and alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS).
