Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer – Energy Storage Systems Rate: Negotiable (in line with experience) Location: Oxford/Banbury – 3 months (potential to extend) Job Description: We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support the development and integration of an energy storage program utilizing electric motors, power inverters, and battery systems. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for defining system requirements, ensuring subsystem integration, managing technical risks, and supporting the full system lifecycle from concept through deployment and operation. Key Responsibilities: Define and manage system-level requirements for energy storage systems. Develop system architectures integrating batteries, inverters, motors, controls, and thermal management. Lead system integration activities across electrical, mechanical, software, and controls domains. Perform system trade studies, performance analysis, and failure mode analysis (FMEA/FMECA). Ensure compatibility and interface definition between batteries, power electronics, and motors Support system validation, verification, and testing (V&V). Monitor system efficiency, safety, reliability, and performance metrics. Collaborate with suppliers and internal engineering teams on component selection and qualification. Support compliance with applicable standards and regulations (UL, IEC, IEEE, ISO, NFPA, etc.) Develop and maintain system documentation, block diagrams, and interface control documents (ICDs). Support commissioning, field troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts Day to day program management supported by Head of Program and ED. Experience Required: • Experience with energy storage systems, power electronics, or electric drive systems, • Strong understanding of batteries (Li-ion preferred), inverters, and electric motors, • Knowledge of system-level modelling and requirements management, • Experience with electrical architectures, power distribution, and controls integration, • Familiarity with safety concepts including functional safety and battery safety, • Experience with vehicle level or industrial energy storage systems, • Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and motor control strategies, • Experience with system simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSCAD), • Familiarity with standards such as UL 9540, UL 1741, IEC 62933, IEEE 1547, • Experience with thermal management and cooling systems, • Systems engineering tools (DOORS, Jama, SysML) Skills Required/Preferred: • Strong systems thinking and ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary designs, • Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills, • Clear technical communication with cross-functional teams, • Ability to balance performance, cost, safety, and schedule trade-offs, • Collaboration with hardware, firmware, software, and operations teams Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
