Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a Full-Time HUD Accounting Assistant on Oʻahu to support the financial operations of our HUD-funded housing programs serving adults with mental illness. This on-site role plays a critical part in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and stability across community-based housing services. In this role, you’ll support housing programs by maintaining precise financial records, assisting with HUD reporting, and collaborating with housing and finance leaders to keep programs running smoothly. This position is ideal for detail-oriented accounting professionals who want their work to directly support housing stability and community impact. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) • File Management: Maintain HUD project files, contracts, and compliance documentation, • Accounts Management: Process AP/AR, rental collections, and HUD billing statements, • Audit & Compliance Support: Assist with audits, reports, reconciliations, and asset tracking, • Financial Reconciliation: Verify transactions, review rental reports, and ensure accuracy, • Tax & Reporting: Prepare 1099s, support tax exemptions, and HUD electronic reporting, • Team Collaboration: Work with the Housing Division Manager to support program operations, • Additional Duties: Perform other accounting and administrative tasks as assigned HUD Accounting Assistant Qualifications • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent, • Experience: At least three (3) years of accounting experience, • Skills: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, office procedures, and business correspondence, • Technical Skills: Proficiency with spreadsheets and 10-key by touch; experience with QuickBooks, OneSite, or similar systems preferred, • Fit for the Role: Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Requirements & Work Conditions • Ability to pass a criminal background check and alcohol/drug screening, • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs and perform standard office and computer-based work, • Ability to work on-site and collaborate with housing and finance teams Benefits of Joining Mental Health Kokua • Medical & Vision Insurance (UHA or Kaiser), • Dental Insurance (HDS), • Supplemental Insurance (Aflac), • Pet Insurance, • 403(b) Retirement Plan, • Identity Theft & Legal Protection, • Paid Leave & Holiday Pay, • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility Why Mental Health Kokua?
