Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and control equipment supporting the operations of a large-scale water treatment and pumping facility. This role ensures the continuous and safe operation of medium-voltage power distribution, motor control centers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), SCADA systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and instrumentation critical to water treatment, distribution, and pumping processes. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting and diagnosing complex electrical and control system issues, performing preventive maintenance on electrical infrastructure, updating wiring diagrams and control schematics, and ensuring all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local codes, and safety regulations. The electrician collaborates closely with operations, mechanical, and instrumentation teams to maintain system integrity and operational efficiency. This position requires expertise in industrial automation, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to respond to emergency repairs under minimal supervision in a mission-critical environment. Duties and Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. * Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems including medium- and low-voltage power distribution for pumps, motors, and treatment equipment * Troubleshoots, tests, and diagnoses issues with complex electrical and electronic control systems * Maintains and calibrates PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, and other automation controls used in water treatment and pumping operations * Performs preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical panels, MCCs, transformers, switchgear, and control wiring * Installs and configures variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and motor protection systems * Interprets and updates electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and control schematics * Ensures compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA standards, and facility safety policies * Assists in system upgrades, retrofits, and expansions, including the integration of new control systems and electrical components * Coordinates with operations, mechanical, and instrumentation teams to support facility reliability and performance * Responds to after-hours emergencies or critical failures as part of an on-call rotation when required * Documents maintenance and repair activities in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) * Identifies opportunities for energy efficiency, control optimization, and system improvements * Maintains inventory of spare electrical parts, tools, and safety gear * Participates in safety meetings, training sessions, and ongoing technical development Typical Qualifications Education and Experience: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and 3 to 5 years' experience in journey electrician or related work OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted Licensing and Certifications: * Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire * Master Electrician License Additional Information Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Practices and methods of coaching and leading the work of others for training and coaching staff * Techniques and methods for coordinating, organizing, prioritizing, assigning and monitoring work, providing directions to others to meet service standards * Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work * Practices and methods of electrical maintenance, repair and installation work * Business math concepts and computations * Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices * Uses and properties of supplies and equipment, including specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment * Interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations * Providing customer service following applicable principles * Modern office technology * Performing and overseeing journey-level repairs, maintenance and installation of electrical components, equipment and systems * Diagnosing, assessing and evaluating electrical repair and maintenance needs for conducting inspections, equipment testing and providing preventative maintenance * Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines and prioritizing competing demands * Providing attention to detail, proofreading, and error correction in assignments * Organizing, maintaining, and updating records, files, data, and documentation * Comprehending reference books and manuals * Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications * Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction ADA and Other Requirements: Work Environment and Physical Effort: Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
