Oceaneering's Marine Services Division (MSD) is seeking a highly skilled Inside Machinist with CNC programming, setup, and machining expertise to support the manufacturing of complex, critical submarine components in a low-volume, build-to-print environment. This role requires mastery of machining principles, precision measurement, and blueprint interpretation. Unlike high-volume "widget" machining shops, our work consists of one-off and non-repeat builds with tight tolerances, exotic alloys, and high-quality standards that directly support the U.S. Navy submarine fleet. This role does not require travel but may require overtime. • CNC Programming & Setup: Review, edit, and optimize CNC programs (lathe and mill) using G-code and CAM platforms. Set up, align, and secure workpieces, fixtures, and tooling on CNC and manual machines. Conduct first-article runs and validate programs to ensure dimensional accuracy and repeatability., • Machining Operations: Perform the setup and operation of a wide range of equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, saws, and related shop machinery. Machine complex components from materials such as HY-80, HY-100, stainless steel, Inconel, and other submarine-grade alloys. Select the correct speeds, feeds, tooling, accessories, and cutting methods to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes. Perform complex machining operations with minimal supervision, using both CNC and manual equipment as required., • Blueprint, Technical, And Work Document Interpretation: Read, interpret, and execute machining work using complex blueprints, drawings, manuals, GD&T callouts, and technical work documents. Lay out workpieces, measure and mark reference points, and plan machining processes for one-off components without existing procedures, work instructions, or examples., • Precision Measurement & Documentation: Inspect, measure, and verify machined features using OD/ID micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, dial indicators, lay-out tools, and other precision metrology equipment. Accurately record measurements, readings, and inspection data to ensure compliance with critical tolerances. Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Planning to resolve machining issues and ensure successful first-time quality., • High School Diploma/GED, • Minimum eight (8) years' experience machining complex submarine, aerospace, defense, nuclear, or similarly critical components in a precision or defense manufacturing environment., • Ability to develop new programs or machining strategies across manual and/or CNC machines., • Ability to perform advanced setups, optimize tool paths, and improve setup instruction sheets on multiple machines., • Ability to operate both CNC and manual machine tools, develop fixturing and processes, and troubleshoot issues without supervision or guidance., • Able to read, interpret, and evaluate advanced blueprints, drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications for manufacturability without supervision or guidance., • Ability to perform multi-axis machining operations (e.g., 4-axis or 5-axis mills) as applicable., • Demonstrated working knowledge of shop math (e.g. convert between decimals and fractions, adding and subtracting decimals and fractions, basic trigonometry used for layout and measurements, etc.)., • Ability to perform First Article Inspections and resolve issues to make sustainable quality improvements., • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in machining practices for tight-tolerance, critical components., • Demonstrated proficiency using precision measuring instruments and accurately documenting measurements., • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and train others., • Experience with exotic alloys and challenging machining conditions., • Familiarity with NAVSEA or military specifications., • CAM software experience (Mastercam, SolidWorks, etc.)., • Demonstrates high attention to detail and exhibits technical excellence and leadership qualities to drive culture of continuous improvement., • Strong communication skills with a collaborative mindset., • Ability to act as a liaison between supervision and other departments, such as Quality or Engineering., • Adaptable and resourceful able to plan work and think critically in a one-off production environment., • Willingness and ability to train less experienced Inside Machinists to support a culture of continued learning and growth. May require working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment. May be exposed to intense light from welding operations. Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks from welding and grinding operations. Depending on the location, may require working in hot, humid conditions (above 90 F degrees) or cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures. Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that may exceed 85 decibels and require the use of hearing protection. Physical Activity/Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position is considered MEDIUM work. • Occasional: Lift 20-50 pounds., • Frequent: Work in confined spaces, kneel, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands., • Constant: Identify color differences., • Occasional: Lift 10-25 pounds., • Frequent: Climb stairs/ladders, stand, balance, stoop, squat, reach, and lift/carry objects., • Constant: Twist body, sit with back supported, head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated, and work with arms extended overhead., • Occasional: Operate a motor vehicle., • Constant: Lift up to 10 pounds., • Occasional: Wear PPE protection as required for the conditions.
